Overview:

The incumbent is responsible for directing GGW accounting, budgeting, financial analysis, and preparation of financial statements in compliance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and tax functions.  This includes responsibility for ensuring all data and processes related to accounting and finance function optimally and are accurate.  Specific activities include monitoring cash flow, all G/L activities and related compliance issues.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

1.    Protect assets by establishing, monitoring and enforcing internal controls.

2.    Responsible for oversight and development of accounting and finance policies and procedures.

3.    Direct and manage budget and forecast processes for GGW and related entities.

4.    Manage year end audit and supervise staff in preparation of reconciliations, etc. as requested by auditors.

5.    Manage cash flow by routinely reviewing the status of the accounts receivable aging and ensuring proper collection of accounts through the staff, reviewing daily bank balances and capital spending

6.    Develop and coordinate distribution of reporting tools for Senior Leadership Team and/or departments to properly manage their cost center budgets.

7.    Ensure that accounting and budgeting systems are properly configured to support accurate reporting of timekeeping, payroll, retail sales, financial reporting and specific compliance requirements for Federal and/or State grants and other restricted funding.

8.    Ensure that all general ledger accounts are reconciled routinely and that variances are resolved in a timely manner. 

9.    Develop and implement appropriate processes and procedures to ensure compliance with all regulatory requirements, i.e., Federal and State grants, tax regulations, etc.

10.    Oversee monthly closing schedule, with full closure to allow distribution of reports to all parties by the 15th of the following month.

11.    Keep up-to-date on information and technology affecting functional area(s) to increase innovation, efficiency and ensure compliance

Supervisory Responsibility:

This position has supervisory responsibility for the Controller (Accounting Operations) and Assistant Controller (Budgeting, Reporting & Compliance).  Reporting to the Controller are 5 positions and the Assistant Controller 2 positions, respectively

Qualifications:

Required Qualifications:

1.    Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance.
2.    Certified Public Accountant (CPA) valid and in “active status” either in the District of Columba or Maryland or Virginia.
3.    Experience with A-133 audits, A-122 cost principles and Form 990.
4.    Ten plus years in accounting and/or corporate finance experience of which three to five years in a supervisory role with a nonprofit entity.
5.    Strong written and oral skills required.  Word processing, spreadsheet and database software proficiency.  Hands-on experience with financial management software and payroll software.  Hands-on experience with G/L software.
6.    Diplomacy, coaching and counseling, and conflict resolution skills.
7.    High level of organizational skills and the ability to handle multiple tasks.


Preferred Qualifications:

1.    Knowledge of and specific competence with Great Plains Accounting System, Management Reporter, PN3, Prophix, Powerplan or comparable systems
2.    Experience with Ceridian Dayforce or comparable system.
