The Director of Facilities is responsible for all departmental functions at Baylor Scott & White Surgical Hospital at Fort Worth and Baylor Scott & White Surgical Hospital and establishes effective working relationships with all constituencies including patients, physicians, employees, volunteers and vendors. The Director of Facilities identifies and remedies through continuous customer satisfaction data and employee involvement. The Department Director works with Senior Management in meeting Facility goals.
The Director of Facilities Oversees environmental services, linen services, waste disposal, biomedical equipment inspections and serves as the Safety Officer.

 Key duties and responsibilities include

  • Inspects, calibrates, adjusts, lubricates and repairs or replaces components.
  • Performs preventive maintenance on a variety of equipment according to established procedures.
  • Performs and documents scheduled inspections and electrical safety tests necessary to maintain conformance to code requirements.
  • Maintains records in compliance with State/Joint Commission/OSHA requirements.
  • Chairs the Safety Committee. Reports to the Safety committee any safety inspections, activities or unsafe findings for the committee action.
  • Chairs the EOC and presents data timely and accurately
  • Negotiates maintenance contracts and tracks when PM’s are due and guarantees that they are performed timely.
  • Negotiates and oversees the housekeeping department and holds them accountable for keeping the building in excellent condition
  • Negotiates and oversees the linen contract and holds them accountable for timely delivery and high quality product and service
  • Negotiate and supervise the Security contract. Hold them accountable for reporting issues timely
  • Directs and participates in the development of departmental safety and disaster policies.
  • Participates in the development of the safety education program for new employees, and annual education for all employees.
  • Develops and implements a program for collection and evaluation of hazardous materials.
  • Reviews, summarized, and documents problems and actions regarding Life Safety Code.
  • Assists the Safety Committee in performing area semi-annual inspection for environmental hazards and unsafe practices. 
  • Works with hospital staff to insure implementation of Safety Committee recommendations.

Required skills include, but are not limited to:

  • Regulatory expertise in all areas covered by Director
  • Good working knowledge of repair and maintenance of equipment found in a hospital setting other than that maintained by Bio-Med services
  • Good aural activity to detect malfunctions of equipment.
  • Good eye-hand coordination and manual dexterity.

Required Education and experience include, but are not limited to:

  • High School graduate or equivalent
  • Some college preferred
  • Minimum of five (5) years experience in general maintenance duties of a hospital.
  • Experience with Joint Commission, EOC, and other regulatory requirements in a hospital environment is required
  • Supervisory experience, minimum 2 years
