We are seeking a Director of Export & Compliance in our Broomfield, CO or Brooklyn Park, MN Location. All employees should work at their assigned location; however, this role may offer the opportunity to work remotely up to 2 days per week, with approvals.

The Director of Export and Compliance will lead the organization's export control, national security compliance, and broader compliance programs, establishing the strategic direction, priorities, and operating model for compliance activities in support of the Company''s business objectives and regulatory obligations.

This position carries primary responsibility for ensuring the company meets all obligations under U.S. export control regulations (EAR, ITAR), economic sanctions administered by OFAC, and related government compliance requirements. The Director will oversee general compliance program operations through a dedicated Compliance Project Manager and directly manage a Principal Export Control Specialist who supports day-to-day classification, screening, and licensing activities. This is a hands-on leadership role requiring experience building and running export control programs at technology and defense companies, with comfort operating at both the strategic and operational level. The role is responsible for translating complex regulatory requirements into practical business strategies, identifying emerging compliance risks and opportunities, and ensuring compliance priorities remain aligned with organizational growth, operational objectives, and national security obligations.

Key Responsibilities:

Export Control and National Security Compliance

• Own and manage the company's export control compliance program, including policies, procedures, training, and internal controls.
• Develop and maintain the long-term export control and compliance strategy, ensuring alignment with business objectives, regulatory requirements, and industry best practices.
• Lead commodity jurisdiction and classification determinations (ECCN/USML).
• Manage export license applications, agreements (including TAAs and MLAs), and license exceptions or exemptions.
• Oversee deemed export compliance, including technology access controls and foreign national management.
• Direct restricted party screening programs and conduct end-use and end-user assessments.
• Monitor and implement changes to EAR, ITAR, OFAC sanctions, and related regulatory requirements, assessing organizational impacts and directing appropriate compliance responses. .
• Manage voluntary self-disclosures and respond to government inquiries from BIS, DDTC, OFAC, and other applicable agencies.
• Serve as the primary point of contact for government regulatory bodies on all export control and national security compliance matters.
• Provide strategic compliance guidance to executive leadership regarding business expansion, partnerships, acquisitions, technology development, and market-entry decisions.
• Represent the Company in regulatory engagements, audits, investigations, and external compliance discussions.

General Compliance Oversight and Team Leadership

• Oversee compliance program operational execution through the Compliance Project Manager, including training calendars, audit tracking, policy rollouts, and compliance reporting.
• Establish annual compliance objectives, key performance indicators, and strategic priorities, ensuring alignment with corporate goals and risk management requirements.
• Maintain and continuously improve anticorruption, import compliance, procurement compliance, and conflict of interest programs.
• Conduct and oversee compliance risk assessments and internal audits on a recurring basis.
• Monitor regulatory developments across all applicable compliance domains and adjust programs accordingly.
• Prepare and present compliance reports to senior leadership and the board of directors.
• Directly manage and develop the Principal Export Control Specialist and the Compliance Project Manager, setting performance objectives and providing ongoing mentorship.
• Build a culture of compliance and export control awareness across the organization by partnering with engineering, product, supply chain, HR, and business development teams to embed compliance practices into daily business operations.
• Drive organizational change initiatives related to compliance, regulatory requirements, and governance processes, ensuring effective implementation and stakeholder adoption.
• Establish and maintain governance frameworks, escalation processes, and decision-making structures to support effective compliance oversight and accountability.

YOU MUST HAVE:

• Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree required.
• Minimum 10+ years of export control and government compliance experience at technology and defense companies.
• Minimum 7+ years of experience managing relationships with BIS, DDTC, OFAC, or equivalent government agencies.
• Minimum 7+ experience with commodity jurisdiction, classification (ECCN/USML), licensing, deemed exports, and voluntary disclosures.
• Minimum 7+ of EAR, ITAR, OFAC sanctions, and related regulatory frameworks.
• People management experience, including building and leading compliance teams.
• Due to Contractual requirements, must be a U.S. Person defined as, U.S. citizen permanent resident or green card holder, workers granted asylum or refugee status
• Due to national security requirements imposed by the U.S. Government, candidates for this position must not be a People''s Republic of China national or Russian national unless the candidate is also a U.S. citizen.

WE VALUE:

• Demonstrated experience developing compliance strategy, leading organizational compliance initiatives, and influencing executive-level decision making.
• Demonstrated experience building or significantly enhancing an export control compliance program.
• ECTI (Export Compliance Training Institute) certification.
• Experience with technology control plans and classified program compliance.
• Familiarity with government contracting compliance requirements, including FAR and DFARS.
• Experience implementing compliance technology solutions, such as visual compliance tools and OCR screening tools.
• Strong communication skills, with the ability to translate complex regulatory requirements into practical business guidance for a broad set of stakeholders across technical and non-technical functions.
• For the avoidance of doubt, a Customs Broker License and CCEP certification are not qualifications for this position and will not be considered as part of the preferred qualifications assessment.

$175,000 - $235,000 a year

Compensation & Benefits:

Incentive Eligible - Range posted is inclusive of bonus target.

The pay range for this role is $175,000 - $235,000 annually. Actual compensation within this range may vary based on the candidate's skills, educational background, professional experience, and unique qualifications for the role.
