POSITION: Full-time, Director of Experiential Learning and Pro Bono

Summary: Wilmington University Farnan School of Law seeks an experienced, innovative, and collaborative professional to serve as Director of Experiential Learning and Pro Bono. This exciting leadership opportunity is ideal for a dynamic individual who is passionate about student success, experiential education, professional development, and expanding meaningful access to legal experiences and public service opportunities.

As a key member of the Office of Professional Development (OPD), the Director will work closely with faculty, alumni, employers, and legal organizations to strengthen and expand experiential learning and pro bono opportunities for law students and alumni. The Director will play an integral role in advising and mentoring students, cultivating employer partnerships for internships and externships, and leading the School of Law's Pro Bono Program to foster professionalism, engagement, and service.

Requirements:

A Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree is required. Candidates must have a minimum of three (3) years of relevant professional experience. Experience in career services, experiential education, legal recruiting, professional development, or the practice of law is preferred. The ideal candidate will demonstrate a strong commitment to student development, mentorship, and public service.

Must possess strong leadership and supervisory skills, exceptional organizational abilities, keen attention to detail, and excellent written and verbal communication skills. Ability to build and maintain relationships with employers, alumni, students, and legal professionals. Must be proficient in technology, including Microsoft Suite, and Banner or similar systems. Must demonstrate respect for others in the workplace and a commitment to creating a supportive work environment that values the contributions of all employees. The ability to maintain professionalism and confidentiality in all situations is a must.

Responsibilities include (but are not limited to):

  • Develop and strengthen relationships with legal employers throughout Delaware and the surrounding legal markets to expand internship, externship, and employment opportunities for students.
  • Assist with the administration and assessment of externship placements, including student evaluations and related data collection.
  • Support the implementation and delivery of Professional Development Milestones, Externship I and Advanced Externship courses.
  • Collaborate with OPD colleagues to design and deliver programs focused on career development, professionalism, and professional identity formation.
  • Organize and present workshops and educational programs addressing legal career pathways, job search strategies, networking, and professional skills.
  • Manage, promote, and expand the School of Law's Pro Bono program.
  • Advise students and alumni on career planning skills and job search strategies, including practice area exploration, employer research, application materials, interviewing, networking, and experiential learning opportunities.
  • Represent the OPD and the School of Law through participation in local, regional, and national professional organizations, including bar associations, NALP, CLEA, and affinity groups.
  • Promote and foster a supportive environment for all students, faculty, and staff.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Associate Dean for Career Services and Experiential Learning.

Hours of Employment: Generally, Monday-Friday between 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., depending on the needs of the department(s) and/or the University, with occasional evenings to accommodate evening students or weekends for specific law school-related programming or events.
