SUMMARY

The Senior Leader eXperience (SLX) organization enables senior leaders (Director+) to build and run great businesses across Amazon"s diverse portfolio in an era of unprecedented scale, complexity, and rapid change. We connect business strategy to talent and workforce strategy by delivering programs that strengthen core leadership capabilities and our culture across all Amazon businesses. We pursue our mission by delivering talent solutions across our four pillars: executive development, workforce planning, organizational planning and effectiveness, and executive talent management.

Based in Seattle, WA, this position is part of the SLX leadership team. The Director of Executive Talent Management is a critical role which will enable growth of the Amazon business and executive leadership capabilities. This leader will provide oversight to the executive talent management organization with responsibility for talent strategies, succession plans, and executive placement programs specifically for executive leadership across Amazon. This individual will work closely with the PXT (People eXperience Technology) (PXT=HR) senior leadership team to implement strategic executive talent management practices that strengthen leadership bench strength, enhance succession planning, and build organizational capabilities in an AI-forward environment.

Working closely with other PXT partners, this individual will define, build, refine and implement progressive talent assessment methodologies, succession planning frameworks, and strategic deployment approaches to enable Amazon"s dynamic, growing businesses to serve customers of all types around the world. Through comprehensive talent reviews, executive assessment processes, executive talent mobility initiatives, and high-touch stakeholder engagements, this role will ensure that Amazon has a surplus of executive talent to fuel its growth across all business segments.

The Director, Executive Talent Management will pioneer new approaches to executive talent management that align with enterprise-wide goals, strategic planning, and growth objectives. The common view is that while Amazon has already experienced tremendous business growth, much is still ahead. We are still in the early stages of our journey, with significant opportunities to innovate our approach to enabling our senior leaders.

Key job responsibilities

Responsibilities for the role include:

  • Own the unified cadence of executive talent management mechanisms across Amazon
  • Drive innovation in executive talent management practices - from ideation through implementation
  • Lead a direct and indirect team focused on Executive Talent Management, Executive Succession Planning, and Strategic Capability Planning
  • Create a unified approach that consistently supports executive talent identification, development, and organizational effectiveness
  • Identify and implement strategies for accelerating executive readiness and building a robust leadership pipeline
  • Utilize a data-driven approach with strong analytics and leadership metrics to drive positive organizational outcomes
  • Think Big about the future of Amazon"s business and how the executive leadership team will be positioned to address future business challenges
  • Communicate strategic vision and tactical actions with conviction to senior leaders to gain buy-in and earn trust
  • Display executive presence while frequently engaging with C-level leaders across Amazon
