Position Summary

RICHARD EPC is seeking an experienced Director of Estimating to lead all estimating and preconstruction activities for our industrial Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (EPC) business.

Reporting to executive leadership, this role is responsible for delivering accurate, competitive, and executable estimates while ensuring alignment across engineering, procurement, construction, and commercial strategy. The Director of Estimating will oversee estimating from early FEL studies through final proposals, provide executive guidance on pricing, risk, and execution strategy, and lead the modernization of the estimating function through data, technology, and continuous improvement.

Ideal Candidate

A respected industrial EPC estimating leader with deep technical and commercial expertise, capable of developing executable estimates, managing project risk, leading high-performing teams, and leveraging technology and data to build a best-in-class estimating organization.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Construction Management, or related field (advanced degree preferred)
  • 20+ years of industrial EPC experience
  • 10+ years of estimating leadership experience
  • Demonstrated success leading estimates ranging from $50 million to $1 billion+
  • Experience in LNG, petrochemical, refining, industrial gas, midstream, and other industrial process facilities
  • Background with major EPC contractors or industrial self-perform organizations preferred

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead conceptual, budgetary, and definitive estimating efforts
  • Develop competitive pricing, execution strategies, and estimate assumptions
  • Integrate engineering, procurement, construction, and project controls into the estimating process
  • Perform risk assessments, contingency analysis, and executive estimate reviews
  • Establish estimating standards, governance, historical cost databases, and continuous improvement practices
  • Partner with executive leadership on bid strategy, project viability, and commercial risk

Technology & Innovation

The successful candidate will modernize the estimating function by implementing data-driven processes and digital tools that improve estimate accuracy, consistency, speed, and risk visibility. Experience with estimating platforms (InEight, HCSS HeavyBid, or similar), Power BI, cost databases, workflow automation, and emerging AI-enabled estimating technologies is highly desirable.

Leadership

The Director of Estimating will build and lead a high-performing estimating organization, foster collaboration across engineering, procurement, construction, and project controls, mentor estimating professionals, and promote a culture of accountability, operational excellence, and continuous improvement.
