An established and growing convenience store chain in the Southeast is in search of a Director of Environmental to oversee compliance, testing, preventative maintenance, repair, and remediation and management for their Petro services arm of the business. The ideal candidate will have a background in C-store environmental compliance relating to underground fuel systems, a track record of success with state compliance, and an ability to work with outside vendors.

The right candidate can expect a salary between $120k - $130k. They can also expect a company car for work and personal use, company phone, company laptop, as well as an annual bonus around 10%.

 

Essential Functions:

1. Coordination and management of programs for remediation of contaminated sites

2. Management of compliance testing for tank and petroleum dispensing systems

3. Oversight of petroleum systems maintenance activity related to remediation, compliance, and product integrity

4. Due diligence oversight of environmental liability related to real estate transactions

5. Emergency response coordination and reporting management of fuel releases

6. Insurance claim management related to remediation, releases, and compliance

7. Permitting and funding oversight of hazardous materials removal and tank installation or removal

8. Coordination and management of environmental and maintenance vendors

9. Supervision of compliance manager role and field personnel

 

Minimum Qualifications:

1. 18+ years of age

2. Bachelor’s degree in related field

3. Valid Driver License, clean driving record, ability to drive independently

4. Advanced knowledge of state funded remediation programs in Florida and North Carolina

5. Detailed understanding of regulations related to the transportation and storage of petroleum products

6. Capability to effectively manage multiple priorities and communicate effectively with interested parties

7. Proficient in CRM software, Microsoft Office Suite, and electronic communication

8. Must pass a pre-hire drug screen, background, and MVR

 

Physical and Mental Requirements:

1. Articulate, professional verbal and written communication in English; effectively hear, speak, read, and write

2. Sufficient close visual acuity to accurately perform reading and typing functions on standard computer systems

3. Occasionally lift objects weighing up to 50 pounds and carry short distances

4. Ability to sit, stand, or move for extended periods during meetings, site visits, trade shows, and other events

5. Ability to work efficiently under minimal supervision and generate timely progress reports

6. Interpersonal aptitude; must effectively work with clients, vendors, and company personnel of all levels

7. Refined analytical and organizational skills; ability to adapt in a multi-task, multi-location, corporate business environment with fluctuating priorities

8. Adequate patience for providing mentorship and training to junior colleagues

 

Work Environment:

1. Responsibilities performed primarily in office

2. Field visits to locations as required

3. Duties executed at retail convenience and fueling locations may involve inclement weather and other unforeseeable conditions
