Primary Function:
The Director of Engineering provides strategic leadership for Dashiell’s electrical substation engineering function, driving the technical direction, operational performance, and growth of the engineering discipline across all substation projects. This role holds full accountability for engineering quality, talent, and financial performance of the group. The position will be based in our Raleigh, NC officelocated at 11000 Regency Pkwy, Suite 107 Cary, NC 27518 and will report to Dashiell’s Vice President of Engineering.
Duties & Responsibilities
Employee may be called upon to perform any or all of the following functions:
Provide executive-level leadership for the Electrical/Substation engineering discipline, setting strategic direction and organizational goals for the Raleigh office and across all substation engineering groups.
Hold accountability for all substation engineering deliverables, technical quality, and client satisfaction across the portfolio, including physical design, protection and control, and relay engineering.
Lead development and implementation of substation engineering standards, design methodologies, QA/QC processes, and technology roadmaps forthe Raleigh office.
Build and manage a high-performing substation engineering organization through talent acquisition, development, mentoring, and succession planning for the Raleigh office.
Serve as senior client executive for major utility, industrial, and renewable energy accounts, leading engineering pursuits and maintaining strategic relationships.
Collaborate with the Vice President of Engineering and executive leadership on business strategy, growth initiatives, and market positioning within the electrical infrastructure sector.
Manage the full engineering P&L for the Electrical/Substation function, including resource planning, budget management, project profitability, and financial forecasting.
Drive cross-functional coordination with construction, testing, project management, and business development teams to ensure seamless project delivery.
Oversee substation engineering proposals, scope development, fee estimation, and contract negotiations in support of business development.
Perform special projects and complete other duties as assigned or requested.

Minimum Qualifications / Experience
Required
Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering from an accredited university required; a power systems focus is strongly preferred. Master’s Degree strongly preferred.
Minimum 16 years of electrical substation engineering experience with at least 7 years in senior leadership and management roles.
Active Professional Engineer (PE) license required; ability to obtain licensure in multiple states required.
Extensive hands-on experience in high voltage substation engineering and design (138kV and above), including physical design, protection and control, relay engineering, and HV EPC project execution.
Proven executive engineering leadership with full P&L accountability for an engineering group or business unit.
Deep understanding of applicable engineering standards including NEC, NESC, IEEE, and ANSI as applied to substation design and construction.
Strategic thinking with the ability to set and execute organizational vision across multiple office locations and engineering disciplines.
Exceptional client relationship management and business development capabilities in the electric utility, industrial, and renewable energy markets.
Strong executive communication, influence, and team leadership skills.
Valid driver’s license required; must maintain an acceptable driving record throughout employment.
