We are partnering with a rapidly growing, venture-backed technology company operating at the intersection of artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, and enterprise software to hire a Director of Engineering.

This is a highly visible leadership role responsible for multiple engineering teams and major technical initiatives across the organization. The Director will work closely with the VP of Engineering and executive leadership to help shape the company's technical direction while guiding engineering teams through an increasingly AI-native and agentic development model.

The right person will bring a strong software engineering foundation, experience leading managers and senior engineers, and enough technical depth across modern software architecture, cloud infrastructure, reliability, and DevOps to effectively challenge and guide technical teams.

This is not a purely administrative engineering leadership position. The company wants someone who understands how modern software is designed, built, deployed, operated, and scaled and who can help engineering teams move faster without sacrificing reliability or technical quality.

Job Details

What You'll Do

Lead multiple engineering teams and provide leadership and mentorship to Engineering Managers, Staff/Principal Engineers, and other senior technical talent.
Partner directly with the VP of Engineering on engineering strategy, organizational structure, technical priorities, and long-term architecture.
Help evolve the engineering organization toward AI-assisted and agentic software development, identifying where AI can meaningfully improve engineering velocity and effectiveness.
Oversee complex, business-critical software initiatives from planning through production.
Drive technical excellence across software architecture, cloud infrastructure, reliability, CI/CD, deployment, observability, and engineering operations.
Work closely with Product, Operations, Security, and executive leadership to translate business priorities into executable technical initiatives.
Establish clear engineering metrics around delivery, reliability, quality, and team performance.
Improve engineering workflows and eliminate unnecessary friction across development and deployment.
Build and develop engineering leadership while creating an environment where senior technical talent can operate with significant ownership.
Identify technical and operational risks before they become customer-impacting issues.
Help ensure the availability, scalability, and reliability of a growing enterprise SaaS platform.

What We're Looking For

The ideal candidate will have 10+ years of progressive software engineering experience, including at least 5 years leading engineering teams, with recent experience at the Director or Senior Engineering Manager level.

You should have experience leading multiple teams or engineering managers, rather than managing a single development team.

A strong technical foundation in software engineering and distributed systems is important, along with meaningful exposure to areas such as:

Cloud-native architecture
AWS or comparable public cloud environments
Distributed systems and microservices
Kubernetes and containerized environments
DevOps and Site Reliability Engineering
CI/CD and modern software delivery
Observability and production reliability
High-availability SaaS platforms
AI-assisted software engineering and/or agentic development

Experience within cybersecurity, AI/ML infrastructure, developer tools, cloud infrastructure, data platforms, or another technically sophisticated B2B SaaS environment would be particularly relevant.

Most importantly, we're looking for an engineering leader who can operate comfortably in a high-growth environment where priorities move quickly. You should be capable of moving between organizational leadership, architecture discussions, customer-impacting technical issues, and executive-level strategy without losing sight of execution.
