A community hospital in Marion, NC is seeking a Director of Emergency Services to lead emergency department operations at a 25-bed facility recognized with an "A" grade for Patient Safety and Leapfrog Group Best Performer designations for pediatric CT imaging. The hospital serves McDowell County with a broad range of specialties including pediatrics, obstetrics and gynecology, orthopedics, and rural primary care, with five primary care practices designated as Rural Health Clinics by the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services.

The role. Reporting through hospital leadership, the Director of Emergency Services holds full accountability for the operational and clinical performance of the emergency department, including staffing, budgeting, and day-to-day departmental function. This leader forecasts staffing needs, monitors financial performance against budget, and drives quality improvement by establishing and tracking measurable outcomes. The Director develops and implements department-level strategies, policies, and procedures aligned with facility goals, while cultivating a team culture built on accountability and cross-functional collaboration. Candidates should be prepared to present documented accomplishments and performance metrics that demonstrate their impact in prior emergency or acute care leadership roles.

What we're looking for.
  • Bachelor's Degree required; Bachelor's Degree in Nursing or Master's Degree preferred
  • Minimum 1 year of applicable leadership experience required; 3 or more years preferred
  • Recent Emergency Department Manager experience will be considered in lieu of director-level tenure
  • Current RN licensure in the state of practice, or an active compact RN license, in accordance with applicable law and regulation
