    Director of Emergency Services - Austin, TX

    Full-Time Leadership | Monday-Friday Days, No Weekends | $135,000-$170,000 Annual Salary + 17.5-26.25% Bonus | $15K-$25K Relocation

    Overview

    Lead comprehensive emergency services at a 368-bed acute care facility in South Austin, Texas (expanding to 500 beds with new tower construction), featuring Level II Trauma Center designation with pursuit of Level I status by 2027. This Director of Emergency Services role oversees 130 FTEs across main campus 45-bed ED plus 3 freestanding emergency rooms (building 4th FSER and satellite hospital) with 220 average daily visits (190-270 range). The facility offers nationally accredited oncology program with adult Transplant and Cellular Therapy, advanced cardiac/stroke/orthopedic programs, robotic surgery institute, maternity services, and comprehensive subspecialties. The position reports to Administrative Director Emergency Services with direct oversight of 1 main ER manager plus CNCs and 2 managers for FSERs.     Responsibilities

    • Ensure high-quality, patient-centered emergency care through oversight of function and staffing across main ED and 3 freestanding emergency rooms with expansion planning.
    • Cultivate superior clinical identity by implementing evidence-based practices advancing patient safety and quality outcomes in Level II Trauma environment.
    • Manage clinical practice variation to improve efficiency, effectiveness, and cost while ensuring accountability and transparency across 130 FTEs.
    • Stay abreast of benchmarks, accreditations, and designations while pursuing Level I Trauma Center designation by 2027.
    • Develop and implement policies ensuring compliance with Joint Commission, CMS, and state regulatory standards for emergency services.
    • Ensure efficient patient throughput delivering high-quality care through volume forecasting (220 daily average), patient flow coordination, and admission/discharge planning.
    • Develop care coordination policies promoting improved quality, safety, and efficiency while fostering interdisciplinary collaboration across departments.
    • Direct nursing practice and unit operations across 45-bed main ED plus 70 total treatment spaces and multiple freestanding locations.
    • Ensure equipment maintenance performed regularly according to regulatory and accreditation standards across all emergency sites.
    • Provide leadership executing strategic roadmap enhancing patient experience and achieving optimal outcomes across emergency services network.
    • Leverage feedback mechanisms to benchmark performance and implement strategies elevating patient satisfaction and service delivery.
    • Collaborate with subject matter experts and leaders to ensure compliance with evidence-based practices enhancing patient experience.
    • Oversee expansion projects including 4th freestanding ER and satellite hospital development under Administrative Director guidance.
    • Manage budget, staffing models, and resource allocation across multi-site emergency operations with growing volume and complexity.
    • Foster culture inspiring commitment to organizational vision while ensuring employees are recognized, valued, and supported.

    Qualifications

    Required:

    • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) from accredited program (required)
    • Current Texas RN license in good standing or active multi-state compact license
    • Minimum 3 years of Director of Emergency Department experience in acute care setting
    • Minimum 1 year of applicable leadership experience
    • Demonstrated expertise in high-volume emergency operations, Level II Trauma, and multi-site management
    • Strong leadership, strategic planning, and financial management skills
    • Experience with emergency services expansion and facility development

    Preferred:

    • Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) or Healthcare Administration degree
    • Experience managing 200+ daily ED visits across multiple sites
    • Background pursuing Level I Trauma Center designation
    • CEN (Certified Emergency Nurse) or emergency leadership certification
    • Experience with Meditech EMR system

    Compensation & Benefits

    • Annual Salary: $130,000-$170,000 based on experience
    • Annual Bonus: 17.5%-26.25% of base salary
