The Director of Development will plan, develop, and execute a comprehensive fundraising program for Gulfstream Goodwill Industries aligned with the organization's strategic priorities. With a current fundraising portfolio of $1.2 million and a five-year goal of growing philanthropic revenue to $3 million, this position will place primary emphasis on major gift development while building and implementing a multi-faceted development plan in partnership with organizational leadership and staff. The Director will establish and strengthen relationship management systems for existing and prospective major donors, deepen stewardship practices at all giving levels, and actively identify and cultivate new major donor prospects within a rapidly growing and increasingly philanthropically engaged community.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Develop and implement a comprehensive fundraising plan aligned with the strategic plan and organizational priorities:
Develop a multi-year fundraising plan grounded in Gulfstream Goodwill's strategic priorities, with clear annual milestones.
In partnership with the President/CEO and leadership team, set and achieve annual fundraising revenue and activity goals that advance the organization toward a $3 million fundraising goal within five years.
Collaborate and coordinate with organizational leaders and essential staff to implement the fundraising plan.
Oversee a donor database and consistently track current and prospective funder information, engagement history, and key touchpoints.
Produce regular fundraising reports for the President/CEO and Board of Directors.
Lead major gift development as the primary focus of the fundraising program:
Personally manage a portfolio of major donor prospects and active donors.
Design and execute individualized strategies for identification, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship of each donor in the portfolio.
Serve as the primary staff partner supporting the President/CEO's donor engagement and portfolio management.
Leverage the organization's growing community to identify philanthropically capable individuals new to the area and expand the major donor pipeline.
Foster relationships with board members, community leaders, business partners, and other organizational contacts to open doors and make meaningful introductions to prospective major donors.
Strategize, prepare for, and participate in gift solicitations at the major gift, leadership gift, and planned giving levels.
Build and implement robust donor relationship management processes:
Establish clear protocols for donor outreach, moves management, and timely follow-up to ensure every relationship is actively cultivated.
Develop and maintain a systematic approach to managing both existing major donors and prospective major donors.
Ensure no relationship falls through the cracks by building accountability structures into the development operation.
Champion a culture of donor stewardship at all giving levels:
Design and execute meaningful stewardship strategies that acknowledge, recognize, and engage donors at every level of giving.
Deepen donors' connection to the mission of Gulfstream Goodwill through personalized, mission-rich communications and experiences.
Ensure donors at all levels feel valued and connected to the organization's impact.
Build event strategies that lead to new donor development:
Collaborate with event staff to identify and prioritize major donor prospects attending organizational events.
Develop strategies to engage event participants as prospective donors and deepen relationships with existing donors through event experiences.
Ensure meaningful, timely follow-up with event attendees to convert engagement into lasting philanthropic relationships.
Coordinate with the board to maximize their role in cultivating donor relationships through and beyond special events.
Activate and support board members as philanthropic ambassadors:
Help cultivate a vibrant culture of philanthropy among Goodwill board members and organizational leadership.
Provide training, tools, and strategies to help board members open doors to their networks and make personal asks on behalf of the organization.
Work closely with board members to identify prospects within their spheres of influence and develop strategies for engagement.
Develop a planned giving program to create opportunities for legacy giving:
Create and maintain a legacy giving society.
Develop a marketing plan to promote planned giving opportunities to donors, board members, and prospects.
Integrate planned giving conversations in major gift development.
Facilitate personalized stewardship for planned giving donors.
Collaborate with staff to execute a comprehensive, multi-channel annual giving program:
Partner with organizational staff to implement annual giving campaigns utilizing direct mail, online giving, and other donor communications.
Support foundation and corporate grant strategies in collaboration with relevant staff and leadership.
Develop and coordinate planned giving efforts as part of a comprehensive development strategy.
Develop a compelling Case for Support:
Create a Case for Support that clearly articulates the mission, impact, and vision of Gulfstream Goodwill in a manner that resonates with donors and prospects across the philanthropic spectrum.
Create donor-facing materials that bring the transformational work of the organization to life.
Socialize the Case for Support with board and staff members.
Ensure the Case for Supports regularly refreshed and aligned with organizational priorities and strategic goals.
