Cypress Homes is seeking a Director of Construction to lead and strengthen our residential construction operations throughout Northeast Wisconsin. Reporting directly to the President, you will oversee construction performance, develop the project and warranty management teams, improve processes and cost controls, and personally manage select custom and spec home projects from planning through completion.

This position is ideal for a hands-on leader who can balance high-level departmental responsibilities with the day-to-day realities of residential construction.

Key Responsibilities

Construction Leadership and Team Development

• Lead, coach, and develop the project and warranty management teams
• Establish clear expectations and promote accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement
• Provide guidance and support when project teams encounter complex construction, scheduling, vendor, or client challenges
• Partner with senior leadership to evaluate the department's structure, identify staffing needs, and support hiring decisions
• Strengthen construction systems, processes, and standards as the company continues to grow
• Promote consistent communication and coordination throughout the construction department

Project Delivery and Operational Oversight

• Oversee the successful delivery of custom and spec home projects from planning through completion
• Personally manage select residential construction projects while providing leadership across the broader project portfolio
• Maintain visibility into schedules, workflows, staffing needs, and project resources
• Ensure projects meet established expectations for quality, cost control, scheduling, and client satisfaction
• Monitor project expenditures and implement appropriate cost-control measures
• Conduct regular site visits to evaluate progress, quality, safety, and adherence to building codes
• Identify potential problems early and implement practical, timely solutions
• Maintain accurate project documentation, schedules, and operational records
• Oversee the resolution of escalated construction and warranty issues

Cross-Functional and Trade-Partner Coordination

• Coordinate with architects, surveyors, designers, subcontractors, suppliers, and other project partners
• Collaborate closely with the sales and design teams to translate each client's vision into a properly planned and executed home
• Strengthen communication between construction, design, sales, marketing, and business operations
• Build and maintain productive relationships with trade partners and vendors
• Help ensure clients receive a consistent, professional experience throughout the construction process
• Stay current with residential construction trends and incorporate relevant best practices into company operations

Qualifications

• Demonstrated experience successfully managing residential construction projects
• At least three years of experience in a supervisory or Lead Project Manager position
• Strong understanding of residential construction methods, materials, sequencing, regulations, and quality standards
• Proven ability to lead, coach, and hold project teams accountable
• Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple projects and priorities
• Experience monitoring schedules, project costs, and operational performance
• Proficiency with project management software and related business technology
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
• Confident decision-maker who can address problems calmly and proactively
• Client-focused mindset and commitment to delivering high-quality homes
• Collaborative leadership style and willingness to work across departments
• Valid driver's license and willingness to travel to project sites as needed
