The Director of Community Partnerships serves as the College of Business, Engineering, and Technology’s subject‑matter expert for experiential learning, internships, and community partnerships. As a member of the Dean’s Office and the college leadership team, the Director integrates experiential learning across college departments and programs and aligns college‑level efforts with broader university initiatives. The position provides strategic leadership by interpreting policies and procedures, recommending innovative solutions to complex experiential learning challenges, and facilitating communication among stakeholders to support effective implementation.
Manage Existing and Developing New Opportunities
Serve as the college subject‑matter expert for experiential learning practices and procedures, integrating experiential learning across departments and programs and aligning efforts with broader university activities
Develop, maintain, and assess relationships with experiential learning providers, including coordinating meetings and site visits to evaluate opportunities, student performance, and workforce needs
Serve as the instructor of record for internship and field experience courses as needed
Advise students on experiential learning opportunities, working conditions, and fit, and address sensitive issues related to experiential learning and internships as needed
Provide feedback to college leadership, departments, and programs on employer needs, concerns, and emerging opportunities, including interest in permanent employment of students
Collaborate with academic departments across the college and university to resolve student or provider concerns and to strengthen and expand experiential learning opportunities
Develop Relationships
Develop and implement a strategic plan for expanding external relationships
Attend professional and employment-related events to develop and maintain relationships with external stakeholders, including but not limited to representing SCSU at career fairs, employer events, and similar functions.
Coordinate meetings and travel to external sites as well as on campus meetings with external stakeholders
Engage in follow-up visits to maintain and develop relationships
Evaluate the quality of experiential learning opportunities to determine if they meet the goals/objectives for the college and direct resources where appropriate
Outreach and Marketing
Plan, coordinate, and promote student engagement events in collaboration with internal and external partners
Develop, manage, and support recruitment and outreach events involving K-12 students, 2-year college students, college students, and community groups
Develop and manage newsletters and related communications for community partners and students
Collaborate with Alumni Relations and the Foundation to support alumni‑ and donor‑focused events and communications connected to the college
Minimum Qualifications
Master’s Degree and one year professional experience in university or industry outreach or managing of internships, or other related professional experience; or Bachelor’s Degree and three years of related professional experience.
Evidence of relationship building experience
Excellent presentation and interpersonal communications skills
Demonstrated ability to use technology to manage workflow and communications
Demonstrated effectiveness in writing concise and accurate reports, proposals, and memos
Ability to work with persons from culturally diverse backgrounds
Preferred Qualification
Demonstrated ability to work with a wide range of employers
Knowledge of higher education issues and practices
Demonstrated ability to work with a diverse population of faculty, staff, and students
Demonstrated ability to coordinate and promote events and outreach
