    Description

    Director of Communications

Words shape whether people feel invited, informed, and known. In this role you will lead the church’s voice so worship, care, and community life are clear before they are urgent. You will turn scattered announcements into one trustworthy story—and help more people take a next step in faith, service, and belonging.

    Performance Objectives

    • Build a single message calendar so worship, events, and care needs reach the right people on time, with fewer last-minute requests.
    • Raise response to weekly communications—measured by opens, clicks, guest follow-up, and event participation—within the first two quarters.
    • Deliver worship, web, and social content that is accurate, on time, and consistent in tone before it is needed.
    • Align staff and ministry leaders on shared standards so announcements, graphics, and public statements sound like one church.
    • Tell concrete stories of ministry impact that strengthen serving, giving, and guest connection.
    • Lead sensitive communication—crises, pastoral matters, and public issues—with speed, accuracy, and pastoral care.
    • Develop a volunteer and vendor bench so core channels continue when you are away.

    Environment & Resources

You will report to senior pastoral leadership and partner daily with ministry staff and volunteer communicators. The toolkit includes the website, email, social channels, design, and livestream or AV partners. Budget is modest; judgment and systems matter more than spend. You will set priorities, not inherit a large communications department.

    Essential Qualifications

    • Led multi-channel communications for a church, nonprofit, or community organization, with results you can describe.
    • Write, edit, and art-direct for announcements, web, email, and social without heavy revision.
    • Coordinate volunteers and deadlines across several ministries at once.
    • Handle confidential and pastoral information with discretion and theological alignment.
    • Use common web, email, and design tools well enough to publish, not just direct.

    Role Selling Points

    • Communication is treated as ministry, not a support task after decisions are made.
    • You will shape how guests first hear the church and how members stay connected.
    • You will build the system, not manage a large bureaucracy.
    • Pastors and ministry leaders want a clearer public voice and will work with you to get it.

    Call to Action

If you can make this church’s message clearer, kinder, and more consistent, apply with a short note and two samples of work you are proud of.
