    Job Summary

    Odum Library seeks qualified applicants for the Director of Collection and Resource Services, a 12-month tenure track faculty position at the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor, that begins as early as January 2027. Rank is determined at the time of hiring and will be commensurate with experience. The selected candidate will lead the Collection and Resource Services unit, be responsible for the acquisition and collection development of library collections, maintaining scholarly productivity, and participating in service at the college, university, state and/or national levels.

    Responsibilities

    Typical Allocation of Duties:

    25% Accomplish department/unit objectives

    Direct the human, financial, and other resources needed to accomplish objectives of the department or unit.

    20% Monitor and establish processes

    Monitor and establish processes to ensure effectiveness, efficiency, and alignment with University and department goals.

    20% Direct operations

    Direct the operations of the department or unit.

    15% Area Representative

    Represent the department or unit to internal and external groups and individuals.

    10% Manage budget

    Manage the department/unit budget.

    10% Compliance

    Ensure commitment to and compliance with applicable laws, regulations, and standards

    Supervisor Expectations:

    Director of Collection and Resource Services

    • Serve on the librarys leadership team.
    • Provide leadership and guide the direction for the following areas: acquisitions, collection development, cataloging, electronic resources.
    • Supervise two faculty and four staff members.
    • Lead initiatives that increase usability and make it easier for students to use resources independently.

    Acquisitions

    • Responsible for purchasing library materials including the acquisition and renewal of electronic database package subscriptions, individual serials, standing orders, books and other library materials.
    • Create and update ledgers. Monitor expenditures in the integrated library system (Alma) and VSU fiscal systems and create reports as needed.
    • Develop and maintain a positive working relationship with other campus entities including Procurement, Financial Services, and Budget Services.
    • Establish and maintain vendor relationships, communicate needs, stay current with new products, product improvements, access and licensing alternatives.

    Collection Development

    • Coordinate collection development including reviewing usage of library resources, recommend adding or removing resources, and ensuring library collection supports curriculum.
    • Prepare library portion of accreditation reports and meet with visitation teams.

    Scholarship, Professional Development, and Service

    • Maintain working knowledge of emerging trends in librarianship, acquisitions, and collection development.
    • Engage in service at the library, the university, state and/or national level.
    • Participate in scholarship, research, and/or creative activity. Contribute to the development of the library profession through scholarship, presentations, and publications.

    Required Qualifications

    • Masters degree in library and information science from an ALA accredited program.
    • Minimum of three years of progressive experience in cataloging, acquisitions, electronic resource management, or a related field in an academic library setting.
    • Supervisory experience.
    • Excellent oral and written communication skills, organizational skills.

    Preferred Qualifications

    • Familiarity with negotiating licenses and managing e-resources.
    • Experience in maintaining effective relationships with vendors and participating in consortia purchasing agreements.
    • Strong project management skills and attention to detail.
    • Experience with the processes of procurement, contracts, or licensing.

    Proposed Salary

    Commensurate with experience.
