Description

Director of Clinical EngineeringThe Director of Clinical Engineering provides leadership for our comprehensive Healthcare Technology Management (HTM) service program for assigned hospital account(s), with a focus on optimizing equipment uptime, program compliance, and ensuring safety and performance in a cost-conscious, expeditious manner. The Director may also supervise the work of biomedical equipment technicians (BMETs), imaging service engineers (ISEs), supervisors, and other management, technical, and assigned personnel, and must be able to work with, train, and supervise others. The Director of Clinical Engineering functions in a team-based work environment and focuses on achieving team-based requirements and goals. Key Responsibilities include but are not limited to:The essential functions of the job include, but are not limited to, the following:Customer RelationsRespond expeditiously to calls from clinical departments to evaluate and rectify valid operator complaints and concerns.Organize and/or provide in-service educational programs on the use of equipment.Maintain good working relationships with fellow workers, nursing and medical staff, vendors, manufacturers, and the general public.Display effective customer service in accordance with the annual satisfaction survey protocol.Operational ExcellenceDemonstrate a strong work ethic and the ability to work as a member of a team.Demonstrate and reflect a commitment to the mission and values of the company.Manage the repair, installation, maintenance, calibration, and inspection of complex clinical equipment, instrumentation, and systems. Assign routine repairs, inspections, and installations to subordinates and observe their performance.Manage planned maintenance and electrical safety testing of clinical equipment, devices, and systems, and monitor completion of planned maintenance performed by outside vendors.Review the outcomes of planned maintenance actions and recommend improvements to department staff.Supervise and instruct biomedical equipment maintenance personnel in the safe use, application, testing, planned maintenance, and repair of all types of clinical equipment technologies and systems.Provide leadership and managerial oversight to direct reports, as assigned, maintaining optimum productivity, quality, and efficiency.Provide input on client capital replacement strategies for medical equipment and its maintenance requirements.Plan, organize, and direct the growth, effectiveness, and financial performance of the client contract in accordance with company policies and procedures.Manage the equipment database (CMMS) and generate fail code, corrective maintenance, and planned maintenance completion reports.Prepare, present, and explain CMMS reports to management as required.Maintain an orderly and functional work environment, ensuring tools and test equipment are calibrated and in good working order before use.Maintain compliance with the company's ISO 13485 certification standards and Quality Management Program (QMP) policies and requirements.Work augmented shifts as needed to meet the client's contractual requirements.When required, represent the company on hospital committees to ensure safe and effective equipment operation according to contract specifications.Establish and administer the on-call schedule, and take on-call responsibilities as necessary.AdministrationMaintain accurate inventory and documentation of all equipment, inspections, repairs, and failures.Research and initiate orders for repair parts within established budget parameters. Generate purchase orders and find second-source parts when the Technical Resource Center is not available.Demonstrate good organization and time management skills.Provide accurate and timely CMMS database management in accordance with the Quality Management System and related policies and procedures.Learn, understand, and comply with all government, regulatory, industry, company, and client policies and procedures, including updates.Complete all required training (e.g., skills-based, client, work-related, certification).Manage disciplinary issues and other employee relations concerns with guidance from Human Resources, the Regional Director of Operations, and/or the Vice President.Lead and report in accordance with corporate goals for growth, security, and continuity of the account agreement.Complete annual employee performance evaluations, competency assessments, training plans, and merit increases on time.Participate in the hiring process and help the company meet its affirmative action goals.Perform other duties as assigned that are intrinsic to the successful operation of the account and company.Education and ExperienceEducation: Bachelor's degree in biomedical engineering or a related technical discipline required. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be substituted. Certifications such as CHTM, CBET, or A+ are preferred.Experience:Minimum of seven (7) years servicing a broad range of clinical and patient care equipment in a hospital environment.Minimum of five (5) years of leadership experience required.Experience supervising on-site hospital technicians preferred. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:Ability to manage technical personnel with biomedical and/or imaging skill sets, as well as other technical, administrative, and management personnel as needed.In-depth knowledge of electronic circuitry and the technical aspects of operating, repairing, and performing planned maintenance on electronic and electromechanical equipment.Knowledge of basic anatomy, physiology, and medical terminology as applied to biomedical equipment.Knowledge of networking theory, computer and server repair, and how they interface with clinical equipment.Comprehensive knowledge of current regulatory requirements.Ability to analyze, repair, and test electronic and electromechanical equipment.Ability to interpret schematics, wiring diagrams, and illustrated parts drawings of biomedical instrumentation.Ability to train and mentor other technicians.Ability to maintain accurate records of repairs, calibrations, and tests.Ability to follow all applicable hospital and department policies, procedures, and standards.Computer literacy, including email, spreadsheets, word processing, and the assigned CMMS. Equipment & Technology UsageComputers/Laptops: For daily tasks, communication, and project management.Monitors: Larger or multiple screens for enhanced productivity.Printers/Scanners: For printing documents and scanning files.Phones/Headsets: For calls, meetings, and communication.Collaboration Software: Tools like Microsoft Teams, Slack, and Zoom for team communication and meetings.Office Software: Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) for documentation and data management.File Storage/Sharing: Cloud platforms like Google Drive or OneDrive for file storage and collaboration.Video Conferencing Tools: Zoom or similar platforms for virtual meetings.
