Salary $80,000-$85,000

Employment Full Time, 12 Month Position- Monday through Friday during program hours. Evening and weekend work maybe required as job duties demand.

Summary/Objective

The Director will oversee day to day operations of the classroom sites located at E. John Gavras Center, and ensure delivery of appropriate and high-quality educational services. The Director will also work closely with classroom staff or Educational Coordinator to develop a curriculum that is comprehensive and high quality, meeting the NYS PS Learning Standards. The Director will work collaboratively with the appropriate agency staff to ensure that services are comprehensive and allow for all learning avenues to be met

Essential Functions

  1. Maintains confidentiality of information relating to individuals and their families in accordance with agency policy and FERPA regulations.
  2. Directly supervises the day to day operations of the E. John Gavras Center classrooms in conjunction with the Vice President of Operations.
  3. Administers standardized assessment tools for teacher and staff evaluations.
  4. Facilitates the development of a consistent and appropriate curriculum for use in classroom and across all E. John Gavras Center sites.
  5. Ensures the Agency Guidelines and educational needs comply with all applicable NYS and local regulations and Federal Performance Standards.
  6. Understand their role as a NYS Mandated Reporter
  7. Monitors classroom enrollments for Special needs students as well as Private Pay students for the site.
  8. Participates in the development and monitoring of program budgets.
  9. Acts as consultant to teachers in programs, offering support and coaching/mentoring when working with children on the spectrum or any child with special needs.
  10. Demonstrates leadership ability by setting goals, prioritizing needs and collaboratively finding the best solutions to program needs.
  11. Oversees Curriculum development in collaboration.
  12. Guides teachers and staff through annual review process and coordinates a system that is effective and efficient.
  13. Coordinates regular teacher meetings, paraprofessional meetings and attends therapy meetings as needed. Coordinates site meetings quarterly or as needed.
  14. Attends CPSE meetings for children or appoints a designee to attend.
  15. Works with local school districts for enrollment needs
  16. Participates in Directors meetings and other meetings as needed.
  17. Coordinates school wide activities for children and families.
  18. Carries out agency policies and procedures and communicates these to staff members.
  19. Works with Finance to order classroom and program supplies.
  20. Assists teachers with supervision of students, interns and volunteers placed in the classrooms.
  21. Handles emergency health situations that may develop.
  22. Schedules parent and family classroom visits as needed.
  23. Requisitions supplies and equipment.
  24. Recruits, interviews and hires staff as needed for program sustainment.
  25. Develops an annual inventory of all classroom equipment and supplies.
  26. Participates in conferences, workshops and in-service training as needed or recommended to enhance job skills and personal growth and development.
  27. Adheres to agency's policies and procedures as well as department guidelines.

Supervisory Responsibility: Directly supervisors all teachers and staff. Oversees clinical staff

Minimum Qualifications

  1. Master's Degree in Education with Birth-2 Special Education Certification (preferred) or a Master's Degree with a NYS Clinical Certification.
  2. School Administration Certification required.
  3. Experience with young children with developmental delays.
  4. Five years of experience working with children with disabilities.
  5. Experience to mentor and coach teachers to assist with behavior management needs and with a high level of performance.
  6. Proficient computer skills and knowledge of Microsoft Office programs.
  7. Valid NYS driver's license
  8. Must have demonstrated commitment to performing job duties and tasks at a high level of performance.
