About Horizon:
Horizon International is a 25-year-old Christ-centered ministry that exists to create a world of hope through African orphans. Horizon helps individuals, families, and churches live out the call of James 1:27, to care for orphans in their distress. They do this by walking alongside local African partners to give orphans holistic care across five areas of life: physical, spiritual, relational, educational, and vocational. Horizon is not a humanitarian NGO; they are a ministry that wants every child to know they are made in God's image, loved by Him, and created on purpose for a purpose. Today, Horizon connects sponsors nationwide with roughly 1,800 sponsored children across four countries in Africa: Ethiopia, Zambia, Zimbabwe, and South Africa. With many more orphans in need, they are sensing a calling from God to grow that number significantly in the years ahead without ever sacrificing the quality of care.
Position Overview:
Child Sponsorship is the heart of what Horizon does. The relationship that connects a caring sponsor to a real child, and a real child to food, education, care, and a future. The Director of Child Sponsorship leads the charge on this core work. This role is the steward of the one-to-one sponsorship relationships that change lives on two continents at once.
The Director of Child Sponsorship owns data accuracy for children and sponsors, sponsorship workflow execution, retention systems, growth strategies, utilizing new CRM/database for growth, and reporting. The Director builds the systems that allow Horizon to scale child sponsorship, strengthens the relationships between sponsors and the children they support, and provides clear data visibility to leadership, the board, and African partners. This is a builder’s role for someone who loves bringing order, care, and momentum to work that matters eternally.

Job Responsibilities:
- Own child and sponsor data accuracy across all systems
- Oversee activations, deactivations, transfers, and sponsorship workflows
- Manage progress reports and the sponsor-child communication process
- Build retention and reassignment workflows to keep sponsors engaged and children covered
- Provide key leadership in CRM/database implementation and process design (including ongoing growth)
- Build dashboarding, reporting, and data visibility for leadership, the board, and African partners
- Develop and own strategies for child sponsorship growth
- Improve the systems that support child sponsorship growth
- Supervise and develop the Child Sponsorship Assistant role
- Partner with the Director of Communications and Development and Donor Engagement Specialist on sponsor-facing communications and retention
- Coordinate with African partners on sponsorship-related data and reporting needs
- Recommend and implement workflow, system, and tooling improvements
What Success Looks Like:
- Sponsor and child data integrity at a clearly defined accuracy benchmark
- Dashboards and reporting in place for leadership and board visibility
- Sponsor retention and reactivation metrics growing
- Measurable sponsorship growth according to agreed-upon goals and benchmarks
- Documented, repeatable workflows and automations for activations, deactivations, and transfers
- African partners and sponsors alike experience Horizon as reliable, responsive, and relational
Reporting & Team Structure:
Reports to the Chief of Staff. Direct reports: Child Sponsorship Assistant.
Job Qualifications:
- Alignment with Horizon’s mission and Statement of Belief
- Demonstrated passion for orphan care and/or Africa
- Proficiency with data systems (CRM/database/digital work flows)
- Demonstrated desire to grow, learn, and adopt new technologies to improve communications and efficiency
- Experience with sales or other similar roles that require customer service, relationship building, and timely correspondence
- Demonstrated cultural intelligence to be able to communicate and relate effectively with African partners
- Dynamic relationship with Jesus; displaying a life of following Jesus, professional maturity, high character, and exhibiting the Fruit of the Spirit
