Position Summary

The Director of the Calling and Career Office (CCO) provides strategic leadership in vocation formation and career development for Taylor University students. This role oversees CCO staff, manages the Good Work Student Employment program, and fosters connections between students, alumni, employers, and faculty to support career readiness and calling discernment.

Duties and Responsibilities

This position is primarily responsible to:

Testify to personal experience of salvation in Jesus Christ, affirm belief in the University's Statement of Faith, abide by and practice our Life Together Covenant, and both personally agree with and support the Foundational Documents of Taylor University.

Strategic Leadership & Program Oversight

  • Provide vision and leadership for vocation formation programs to help students discern their calling.
  • Direct career development initiatives, including career advising, resume and cover letter reviews, mock interviews, and assessment tools.
  • Supervise CCO staff and oversee the CCO Intern program.
  • Manage the Good Work Student Employment Initiative and associated personnel
  • Lead assessment efforts for the CCO, including compiling the Annual Report and First Destinations Report.
  • Represent the CCO in institutional strategic planning and implementation.

Student Engagement & Career Services

  • Offer individual and group advising on career exploration and job search strategies.
  • Facilitate career development workshops, classroom presentations, and networking opportunities.
  • Develop relationships with alumni, faculty, parents, and employers to expand student internship and employment opportunities.
  • Promote CCO programs through presentations and informal discussions with students, faculty, and staff.

Institutional & External Collaboration

  • Represent Taylor University and the CCO at consortium meetings, conferences, and other professional gatherings.
  • Serve on academic committees as assigned by the Vice President for Student Development.

Administrative & Supervisory Responsibilities

  • Oversee staff hiring, training, performance evaluation, and professional development.
  • Manage operational and budgetary aspects of the CCO and related programs.

Other duties as assigned.

Typical Qualifications

Education and Experience

  • Master's degree, required.
  • Minimum of two years of experience in higher education, student development, or related fields, required.
  • Professional experience in career development, preferred.

Skills and Competencies

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills with a professional and interpersonal approach.
  • Ability to engage effectively with individuals from diverse backgrounds and cultures.
  • Knowledge of various work environments and ability to articulate professional differences.
  • Strong organizational and management skills, with the ability to mentor students.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and other relevant software.
  • Collaborative team player who can also work independently.
