Our client, a leading commercial construction firm, is seeking a Director of Business Development to support continued growth across the Colorado market. This senior leadership role focuses on developing and maintaining strategic relationships with key decision-makers, identifying new project opportunities, and supporting long-term revenue growth.
Working closely with executive leadership, business unit leaders, and preconstruction teams, the Director of Business Development will play a critical role in expanding market presence, managing client relationships, and developing strategies that position the company to win new work. This position requires a strong network within the Colorado commercial real estate and construction markets, particularly along the Front Range.
Duties & Responsibilities
• Lead Generation & Opportunity Development
Identify and build relationships with key partners, developers, owners, and organizations to generate new project opportunities
Qualify potential leads and assist in determining Go/No-Go decisions for project pursuits
Develop and implement long-term client account strategies to strengthen relationships and increase repeat business
Maintain detailed tracking of leads, opportunities, and client interactions to support pipeline development
Provide regular updates on opportunities and market activity to leadership during sales planning meetings
• Pursuit Strategy & Proposal Support
Collaborate with estimating, marketing, preconstruction, and proposal teams to support pursuit strategies
Participate in proposal planning sessions, interview preparation, and pursuit strategy development
Work with leadership teams to identify active owners and developers within key markets and create targeted engagement strategies
Ensure accurate documentation of all pursuits and activities within the company’s CRM system
• Market Research & Strategic Planning
Research emerging market opportunities, industry trends, and potential client organizations
Analyze wins, losses, and pipeline data to identify strategic insights and improvement opportunities
Support executive leadership with preparation of reports, presentations, and business development materials
• Client & Community Engagement
Represent the organization within the community through professional associations, economic development groups, and industry organizations
Build and maintain relationships with executive-level stakeholders across the regional market
Participate in leadership roles within key organizations to strengthen industry visibility and market presence
Qualifications & Requirements
• Experience
Minimum 5 years of business development experience, ideally within the construction or commercial real estate industries
Demonstrated success developing and maintaining relationships with private commercial clients
Proven ability to generate new opportunities and convert leads into active project pursuits
Experience collaborating with leadership teams to develop and manage a strong project pipeline
• Industry Knowledge
Strong understanding of the commercial construction industry and regional market dynamics
Familiarity with development schedules, budgeting, value engineering, and construction delivery methods such as design-build
Knowledge of standard construction contract structures and project lifecycle processes
• Technical & Business Skills
Proficiency with Microsoft Office, particularly Excel
Experience using CRM platforms and managing sales pipelines
Familiarity with construction and project management software such as Procore, Bluebeam, or similar tools is beneficial
Strong analytical, organizational, and strategic planning abilities
• Communication & Leadership
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Strong relationship-building and networking abilities with executive-level stakeholders
Ability to analyze information, make strategic decisions, and adapt business development strategies to changing market conditions
