TITLE: Director of Athletics
QUALIFICATIONS:
REPORTS TO: Superintendent of Schools
SUPERVISED BY: Superintendent of Schools
JOB GOAL: To organize and administer the entire High School interscholastic athletic program, including its policies, staff, students, physical facilities, and community involvement.
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
Administers the overall program of interscholastic athletics including departmental procedures
Fosters the philosophy, goals, objectives, and means that reflect both the East Bridgewater educational philosophy and the specific goals of the athletic program.
Recommends the addition, elimination, and/or maintenance of athletic programs.
Provides leadership in the recruitment, selection, assignment, and evaluation of professional growth and proficiency of coaching staff.
Recommends to the Superintendent all coaching positions vacant as well as yearly reappointments or non-reappointments.
Schedules and contracts all interscholastic sports activities.
Develops and places into operation a listing of appropriate rules and regulations governing the conduct of athletic activities for both athletes and coaching staff.
Prepares and administers the entire athletic program budget.
Assumes general responsibility for proper supervision and is present at all home games.
Makes the necessary transportation arrangements for all contests.
Hires officials for athletic contests when not provided by the league.
Makes requisition for all supplies, uniforms, and equipment for athletic programs and maintains a purchase and inventory system.
Supervises the cleaning, storage, and care of all athletic equipment.
Supervises the proper administering of all school and state rules (MIAA) related to physical and academic requirements of eligibility for participation and verifies with the High School principal each athlete's eligibility.
Makes arrangements for marshals, ticket takers, police, medical coverage, and custodians, etc. as appropriate for each sporting event.
Supervises all ticket sales connected with the athletic program and assumes responsibility for proper handling and accounting of monies involved.
Arranges all details of visiting teams' needs, including gymnasium, locker room facilities, and field assistance as appropriate.
Arranges the practice time schedules for coaches on the field and in the gymnasiums.
Schedules physicals of all athletes prior to the beginning of each season.
Administers the insurance program covering school athletes and assumes responsibility for all processing of reports and claims.
Keeps accurate records of the results of all interscholastic athletic contests.
Coordinates the issuing of all school athletic awards.
Completes all requests of the MIAA with regard to tournament forms and format as well as any other requests.
Attends all League meetings and keeps staff abreast of any situations related to their areas of responsibility.
Informs coaches of all current rules and regulations of their sport-local, state, federal-and interprets when necessary the specific application of same.
Conducts Athletic Department meetings with coaches to explore common problems and share experiences and methods.
Arranges for the payment of coaches and officials within the athletic program.
Effects active communication and cooperation with the coordinator of Student Activities, Director of Music and Marching Bands, Boosters, and other support groups.
Provides and coordinates opportunities for coaching staff to participate in athletic conferences.
Promotes school and community interest in school athletics.
Coordinates the community use of athletic and recreational facilities systemwide.
Performs such other duties or assistance as may be assigned by the Superintendent of Schools.
