The Director of Athletics is responsible for providing leadership, supervision and mentoring of the Athletic Department staff, administers the college's intercollegiate athletic program and reaches fund raising goals for the athletic department on an annual basis. The Director of Athletics will support academic success of student-athletes and development of the whole person for the student-athletes.ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:Administrative & Financial LeadershipCreates and implements an annual program of fundraising for the Athletic Department that achieves the annual budget target. Develops, maintains, and balances the annual budget for all sports in conjunction with the head coaches Prepares the unit plan for Athletic Department Assists with College-wide initiatives. Other duties, as assigned. Departmental Operations & Staff SupervisionEffectively manages the day-to-day operations and issues of the department. Ensures the proper training and education of head coaches including safety, regulations, Title IX and college policies. Manage and train the Sports Information Specialist along with any student workers and support staff in the Athletics Department. Writes and annually updates coach's manual and student-athlete handbook Coordinates the scheduling of games, officials, athletic trainers, facilities and transportation. Serves as the overseer of the college athletic fields and spaces, including managing the field maintenance budget and field specialist. Works in consultation with the Grounds Department to ensure the playability and safety of the outdoor practice and playing fields. Ensures strong communication between Athletics and Grounds departments. Works in coordination with the Athletic Trainer(s) to ensure the safety of student athletes. Compliance, Eligibility & Regulatory ReportingResponsible for all audits of St. Charles Community College conducted by NJCAA. Responsible for the completion of NJCAA online eligibility for all intercollegiate athletic teams. Responsible for the management of the NJCAA MVP online site. Serves as compliance officer on behalf of the Athletic Department including preparation and completion of NJCAA, NCAA, and NAIA forms. Responsible for preparation and completion of Equity in Athletics Report and Higher Education Reporting Act to satisfy Department of Education and Title IX requirements. Maintains appropriate professional memberships to keep abreast of developing trends and regulations associated with intercollegiate athletics and facilities. Student Support & Program EngagementCreates and implements an environment of excellence that recognizes student-athlete accomplishments in all aspects of their educational experiences. Works closely with the International Support Services Department to ensure proper recruitment and documentation required by NJCAA and the College's guidelines for participation in athletics by international students. Serves as the liaison with Campus Lake Apartments and in conjunction with International Support Services to organize fall orientation for student residents and communicate issues that arise. Community Relations & Strategic PartnershipsRepresents the College at all Midwest Community College Athletic Conference (MCCAC) and Region XVI National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) athletic meetings. Acts as one, along with the President and Provost/CAO, of the three points of contact between St. Charles Community College and NJCAA. Serves as the spokesperson to the rest of the academic community and the local media on behalf of athletics. Establishes strong intercollegiate athletic support in the community. Enhances internal communication with numerous departments of the College. Develops external relationships with area high schools, media, businesses, and sponsors. SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIESThe Athletic Director provides consistent leadership for the department, including management of budgets and staff. Performs normal supervisory functions: trains; instructs; assigns work to departmental personnel; recommends transfers, promotions, wage increases, terminations; arranges for additional help or need for overtime; explains and enforces college policies, safety rules, and regulations; evaluates performance. Demonstrated knowledge of NJCAA rules and regulations. Preferred Qualifications Over two years of experience in athletic department administration at the director/operations supervisor/assistant director level or over five (5) years of experience at the full-time head coach level in a community college/junior college setting. Demonstrated success in achieving annual fundraising goals.
