INSTITUTIONAL OVERVIEW: Logan University prepares health science students through evidence-informed care, clinical excellence, and a holistic approach to health and wellness. Logan has led chiropractic education since 1935 and continues to broaden its academic offerings across the health sciences. The University is entering a new phase of institutional growth that calls for a mature, scalable advancement operation capable of supporting strategic priorities, student success, and long-term financial sustainability.
POSITION SUMMARY: The Director of Advancement Services and Annual Giving carries dual responsibility for the infrastructure and the unrestricted revenue engine of Logans advancement program. The position oversees all advancement services functions at the University - donor database administration, gift processing, gift accounting and compliance, reporting and analytics, prospect research, and planned giving records - and simultaneously holds direct revenue accountability for the annual fund.
This is a builders role in a small, high-expectation shop. As Logan scales annual philanthropic revenue from approximately $1 million to $4 million and above, this position supplies both the operating discipline that makes growth measurable and the annual giving pipeline that feeds it. The Director designs and executes the full annual giving program, carries a defined dollar and donor-count goal, and is measured on results.
Reporting to the Chief Development Officer, the Director serves as the Universitys authority on advancement data and gift compliance, and as a trusted operational partner to Finance, Alumni Relations, Marketing, and Information Technology.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Annual Giving & Revenue Responsibility:
- Carry and achieve an annual fund revenue goal that will be determined after the Direct Mail is reestablished and the Annual Fund is stabilized, with accountability for dollars raised, donor count, donor retention rate, average gift, and cost to raise a dollar.
- Design, execute, and continuously improve a multi-channel annual giving calendar spanning direct mail, email, digital and social, phone, giving day, employee and faculty/staff campaigns, student philanthropy, and year-end appeals.
- Develop segmentation, case language, ask strings, and channel strategy by constituency, including alumni, current and former patients, parents, faculty and staff, corporate partners, and friends of the University.
- Own the full donor lifecycle for annual giving: acquisition, renewal, upgrade, reinstatement, and lapsed-donor recapture, each with stated targets and post-appeal analysis.
- Build and manage leadership annual giving society with recognition tiers set at $25,000+, $10,000+, $5,000+, and $1,000+, including tier-specific cultivation and stewardship.
- Identify, qualify, and refer to annual fund donors demonstrating major gift capacity to the Chief Development Officer, and maintain the documented handoff process between annual and major giving.
- Manage annual giving vendors, production schedules, and program budget; negotiate and monitor vendor performance against cost and delivery standards.
- Report annual fund progress against goal to the Chief Development Officer monthly and to the Board of Trustees on the reporting cycle established by the Chief Development Officer.
Database Administration & Data Governance:
- Serve as system owner and primary administrator for Raisers Edge NXT in both Web View and Database View, including user provisioning, security groups, fund and campaign structure, attribute and code table governance, query and export libraries, and release management.
- Establish, document, and enforce University-wide data entry standards, naming conventions, coding structures, and record-retention practices.
- Own the integrity of constituent data, including duplicate resolution, address and deceased updates, NCOA processing, email and phone hygiene, and periodic data audits.
- Manage integrations and data flows between the donor database and Logans finance system, student information system, online giving platform, email marketing platform, event registration, and wealth screening tools.
- Ensure donor data in electronic and paper form is secured, backed up, access-controlled, and retained in line with University policy and professional standards.
Gift Processing, Gift Accounting & Compliance:
- Manage the complete gift-entry lifecycle so that all gifts are batched, entered, and deposited accurately and that acknowledgments are produced within five business days of receipt.
- Process and administer complex gift types, including pledges and pledge payments, recurring gifts, ACH and credit card transactions, matching gifts, securities, donor-advised fund distributions, in-kind gifts, and gifts of real and tangible property.
- Reconcile the donor database to the general ledger monthly with Finance, resolve variances, and serve as the advancement lead for annual audit requests.
- Ensure compliance with IRS substantiation and disclosure requirements, including quid pro quo disclosure and preparation of Forms 8283, 8282, and 1099-R.
- Maintain and update the advancement policies and procedures manual, including the gift acceptance policy, counting and crediting standards consistent with CASE guidelines, and written desk procedures for every recurring process.
Reporting, Analytics & Performance Measurement:
- Build and maintain performance dashboards and standing reports for the President, the Board of Trustees, the Chief Development Officer, and academic and administrative partners.
- Produce fiscal year-to-date revenue reporting aligned to Logans September 1 through August 31 fiscal year, including comparison to prior year, goal, and forecast.
- Deliver appeal-level and channel-level performance analysis, including response rate, average gift, net revenue, and return on investment, with written recommendations for the next cycle.
- Provide fundraisers with constituent lists, segmentation, portfolio reports, and activity metrics on request and on a published schedule.
- Establish and maintain the metrics framework used to evaluate advancement performance as the program scales.
Prospect Research & Pipeline Management:
- Manage the prospect research and prospect management function, producing research profiles, capacity ratings, and briefing documents for the President and Chief Development Officer.
- Administer wealth screening and predictive modeling projects and translate results into actionable qualification pools.
- Maintain the moves management framework in the database, including portfolio assignment, stage tracking, contact reports, proposal records, and pipeline reporting.
Planned Giving & Endowment Administration:
- Serve as the operational file and database manager for all planned giving instruments, including bequests, charitable gift annuities, charitable trusts, estates, and named endowment funds.
- Maintain accurate documentation of the solicitation, creation, acknowledgment, and tracking of each planned gift, and coordinate with Finance on annuitant records and donor payments.
- Maintain endowment fund records and support the production of endowment and scholarship stewardship reports to donors.
- Maintain donor recognition lists for donor boards, giving societies, the legacy society, and the annual honor roll of donors.
Team Leadership & Process Improvement:
- Supervise, train, and develop advancement services and annual giving staff, student workers, and contractors as the function grows.
- Assess current workflows and recommend staffing, technology, and process changes required to support a $4 million operation.
- Crosstrain colleagues, document institutional knowledge, and eliminate single points of failure in critical processes.
- Represent advancement in university-wide systems, data governance, and compliance discussions

QUALIFICATIONS:
Required
- Bachelors degree.
- Seven or more years of progressively responsible experience in advancement services, development operations, annual giving, or a closely related field.
- Demonstrated experience as the administrator or primary system owner of an advancement CRM; in-depth working knowledge of Blackbaud Raisers Edge required.
- Two or more years of experience supervising staff or leading cross-functional projects and vendors.
- Working knowledge of gift accounting, general ledger reconciliation, and IRS charitable substantiation and reporting requirements.
- Demonstrated experience producing fundraising reports and analysis for senior leadership or a governing board.
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and strong proficiency across the Microsoft Office suite.
- Ability to manage competing deadlines in a fast-paced environment with limited support.
Preferred
- Direct responsibility for an annual giving revenue goal, or comparable accountability for measurable fundraising results.
- Experience in higher education, healthcare, or a complex nonprofit environment.
- Experience with Raisers Edge NXT in both Web View and Database View.
- Blackbaud, bCRE, or CFRE certification.
- Experience supporting a CRM conversion, data migration, or comprehensive campaign.
- Experience with direct response segmentation, testing, and multi-channel appeal production.
