Director of Accounting

Location: New York, NY

Job Type: Hybrid, 3 days in office

Salary: $160-195k base + bonus

Client/Job Summary:

An international manufacturer is seeking a Director of Accounting to help build and elevate the accounting department. This individual will play a key role in technical accounting, strengthening financial processes, supporting decision-making across the firm, and helping the company scale effectively.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Oversee the close process end-to-end, ensuring timelines are met and outputs are accurate.
  • Review areas including reconciliations, journal entries, and variance analysis.
  • Partner closely with commercial teams to support areas such as customer programs, revenue recognition, accruals, and trade spend accounting.
  • Help manage the accounting implications of promotional activity, customer deductions, and various sales-related programs.
  • Be the primary point of contact for auditors and assist with external reporting and compliance.
  • Lead and develop members of the accounting team while helping to build a scalable structure.
  • Identify opportunities for system improvements and automation, including enhancements to current ERP tools.

Key Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's in accounting or finance. CPA preferred.
  • 8+ years of experience in technical accounting.
  • Experience at a consumer packaged goods, manufacturing, food & beverage, or retail product company required.
  • 3 years of leadership experience required.
  • Experience in PE-backed, multi-entity, and/or international environments preferred.
  • Exposure to supply chain finance, demand planning, and working capital optimization preferred.
  • Experience with revenue recognition, standard costing, inventory accounting, and trade spend.
  • ERP experience required (NetSuite preferred).
