Director of Accounting

A growing and stable organization is seeking a Director of Accounting to join its leadership team. This is an excellent opportunity for an accounting professional who wants to move beyond traditional accounting responsibilities and become a strategic business partner within the organization.
Reporting directly to senior leadership, the Director of Accounting will oversee accounting operations, financial reporting, budgeting, treasury functions, and financial planning activities while contributing to key organizational initiatives and long-term growth strategies.
Position Summary
The Director of Accounting will provide leadership for the organization's accounting and financial operations while helping support strategic initiatives, technology improvements, and future growth objectives. This individual will play a visible role within the leadership team and will have opportunities to contribute to major projects, including financial systems modernization and strategic planning efforts.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead day-to-day accounting operations and financial reporting activities
- Prepare and present monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements
- Coordinate the annual budgeting and forecasting process
- Oversee cash management, banking relationships, and treasury activities
- Manage inventory accounting and related financial controls
- Support tax compliance and regulatory reporting requirements
- Serve as a key resource for external audits and financial reviews
- Provide financial analysis and recommendations to organizational leadership
- Participate in strategic planning and organizational growth initiatives
- Lead and develop accounting team members
- Support future ERP implementation and financial system improvements
- Present financial information to executive leadership and governing bodies as needed
Qualifications
Required
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
- Progressive accounting and financial leadership experience
- Prior experience leading, supervising, or mentoring employees
- Experience with inventory accounting
- Strong financial reporting, budgeting, and analytical skills
- Excellent communication and presentation abilities
- Demonstrated initiative, leadership potential, and desire for continued professional growth
Preferred
- MBA or advanced business degree
- Experience leading or participating in ERP implementations
- Experience with Sage 100, NetSuite, Microsoft Dynamics, or similar ERP systems
- Experience within nonprofit, publishing, manufacturing, distribution, or other operationally focused environments
