Director of Accounting

Location: Near Amsterdam, NY
Salary Range: $130,000 - $150,000 (DOE)
Type: Full-Time | Exempt

Position Overview

Our growing manufacturing client is seeking an accomplished Director of Accounting to lead and oversee all accounting and financial reporting functions. This is a senior leadership role responsible for ensuring the accuracy, integrity, and efficiency of financial operations while supporting strategic decision-making at the executive level.

The ideal candidate brings deep expertise in cost and inventory accounting, strong leadership skills, and a hands-on approach to managing complex financial environments.


Key Responsibilities

Accounting Leadership & Operations

  • Oversee all accounting functions, including general ledger, AP, AR, payroll, and inventory/cost accounting
  • Lead monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes in compliance with U.S. GAAP
  • Develop, implement, and maintain accounting policies, procedures, and internal controls

Financial Reporting & Analysis

  • Prepare and present financial statements, management reports, budgets, and forecasts to executive leadership
  • Analyze production, inventory, and logistics costs to support pricing, margin analysis, and operational efficiency
  • Provide financial insights to guide strategic and operational decision-making

Audit, Compliance & Controls

  • Serve as the primary liaison for external audits and tax advisors
  • Ensure audit readiness and compliance with applicable accounting standards and regulations
  • Monitor financial risk and strengthen internal controls

Team Leadership & Process Improvement

  • Lead, mentor, and develop the accounting team, fostering accountability and continuous improvement
  • Drive process enhancements and leverage ERP and financial systems to improve efficiency and accuracy
  • Partner cross-functionally with operations, leadership, and other departments


Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field required
  • CPA strongly preferred
  • 8-10 years of progressive accounting experience, including 3-5 years in a leadership role
  • Manufacturing or industrial accounting experience required
  • Strong knowledge of cost accounting, inventory valuation, and U.S. GAAP
  • Experience with ERP systems (e.g., SAP, Oracle, NetSuite)
  • Advanced Excel skills
  • Excellent analytical, communication, and leadership abilities
