Minimum Qualifications

• Master's degree in counseling, education, or another relevant field or an equivalent combination of education and/or experience.
• A minimum of four (4) years counseling/advising experience.
• Ability to assist students with study skills and implement educational programs for students.
• Ability to effectively use counseling skills in a variety of situations.
• Ability to meet strict deadlines and work independently.
• Excellent communication skills and ability to compose, proofread, and edit various communications and prepare and give presentations to students and faculty.
• Skilled at organization and presentation of data using critical thinking skills to analyze and make recommendations based on data.
• Ability to maintain the strictest standards regarding confidentiality of all student information.
• Experience in Student Affairs management of student issues.

Desired Qualifications

• Experience working with medical students.
• Experience providing career advising and administering various career interest inventories/assessments.
• Familiarity with the AAMC Careers in Medicine framework for student advising.
• Experience with supervision of professional staff/full-time employees.

Position Details Position Purpose

In support of the Associate Dean for Student Affairs and Enrollment Management and Assistant Dean for Student Affairs, the Director of Academic Success provides strategic leadership and support at the Oakland University and William Beaumont University Hospital campuses for academic support/learning assistance, career advising, and program development. The Director will lead the Academic Success Team, supervise the monitoring of all student progress, and manage accommodation implementation for disability support. The Director will serve as a generalist career advisor for M1-M4 students as part of the Career Advising Team. The Director will work independently to prioritize assignments and strategies to achieve the mission of the School of Medicine under the direct supervision of the Assistant Dean for Student Affairs.
