Position Summary:
The Director of Nursing Resources provides leadership and oversight for the financial, operational, and resource management functions supporting Patient Care Services. The role is responsible for nursing financial activities, budgeting, productivity analysis and reporting, staffing and scheduling systems, and capital planning and equipment management. The Director partners closely with nursing leadership, Finance, Human Resources, Information Services, Supply Chain, and other key departments to support effective resource utilization and operational decision-making. The role also provides leadership support for assigned Shared Governance activities and reports to the Senior Vice President/Chief Nursing Officer.
Key Responsibilities
Leads financial planning, analysis, reporting, and resource management activities across Patient Care Services.
Develops, implements, and monitors operating and capital budgets in partnership with nursing and departmental leadership.
Develops staffing plans and budget requirements based on projected volumes, productivity standards, and operational needs.
Monitors financial performance, productivity, overtime, contract labor, staffing utilization, and other key trends; identifies variances and provides actionable analysis to nursing leadership.
Develops volume, productivity, staffing, and cost forecasts to support existing and proposed services.
Provides financial and operational reporting to the Senior Vice President/Chief Nursing Officer, Vice Presidents, Executive Directors, Directors, and Nurse Managers.
Partners with nursing leaders to strengthen understanding and accountability related to budgets, productivity, staffing, and fiscal performance.
Develops and maintains financial, staffing, and resource-management data and reporting systems, ensuring accuracy and reliability.
Provides analysis and recommendations related to staffing grids, workforce requirements, contract staffing, recruitment and retention, and budget impact.
Leads long-range capital planning for Patient Care Services, including development of multi-year capital equipment and replacement plans.
Coordinates the evaluation, purchase, installation, and implementation of capital equipment and systems in partnership with nursing leadership, Information Services, Biomed, Supply Chain, and other stakeholders.
Monitors capital expenditures and supports capital inventory management across Patient Care Services.
Provides oversight of staffing and scheduling technology and serves as a liaison with HRIS and Information Services regarding system functionality and operational needs.
Oversees assigned Nursing Resource Office functions and provides leadership to direct-report team members.
Oversees nursing licensure and certification verification, tracking, reporting, and applicable certification pay processes.
Supports nursing quality reporting and analysis, including data and reporting associated with Magnet and other organizational initiatives.
Provides required data and analysis for internal audits, regulatory activities, organizational reporting, and external submissions.
Develops or improves programs, processes, and reporting tools in response to changing organizational and Patient Care Services needs.
Represents Patient Care Services on assigned committees, task forces, and organizational initiatives.
Serves as executive sponsor for assigned Shared Governance Council activities.
Partners across Patient Care Services and other organizational departments to advance financial stewardship, operational effectiveness, and effective use of nursing resources.
Position Qualification:
Qualifications
Education: Master's degree in Nursing required.
Experience: Minimum of five years of nursing management experience required.
Licensure: Current Registered Nurse (RN) license in Tennessee or a valid Multi-State Compact license required.
Demonstrated experience with healthcare financial management, budgeting, productivity, staffing, and resource planning.
Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret operational and financial data and translate findings into actionable recommendations.
Ability to effectively partner with nursing leaders, executives, and cross-functional departments.
Demonstrated ability to manage complex initiatives, prioritize competing demands, and lead through change.
Strong written, verbal, and presentation skills, including the ability to communicate complex financial and operational information to varied audiences.
