Responsible for a nursing staff and corresponding activities on all levels, ensuring adherence to healthcare facility procedures and for the delivery of quality nursing services in a medical facility.
Principal Accountabilities:
Develops, implements, communicates, and interprets nursing policies and procedures that adhere to the State Board of Nursing and State Nurse Practice Act requirements, facility philosophy, and operational policies while maintaining compliance with other government agency laws and regulations.
Communicates and interprets policies and procedures to nursing staff, and monitors staff practices and implementation.
Measures health outcomes against standards and makes or recommends adjustments.
Monitors the quality of service, ensures adequate patient care, allocates department resources in an efficient and economic manner, and maintains compliance with government and facility regulations.
Oversees budget activities, evaluates nursing care inventories, and plans for and requests additional supplies and equipment.
Maintains effective communication with medical and administrative staff; and collaborates with Physicians, Consultants, other medical professionals and departments, institutions, organizations, and community agencies, including government agencies and advocacy groups, to design, develop, support, and coordinate resident care, strategies, and related administrative functions, to improve the quality of services, resolve identified problems, and represent the interests of the facility.
Coordinates nursing services with all other departments.
Participates in the recruitment and selection of nursing personnel, and assures sufficient staff is hired.
Evaluates the work performance of all nursing personnel, assists in the determination of wage increases, and implements discipline according to operational policies.
Oversees the nursing certification programs, orientation, education and training, competency testing, and all related records.
Reviews daily reports from every unit to monitor and ensure timely, effective responses to significant changes in patient conditions, transfers, discharges, use of restraints, unexplained injuries, falls, behavioral episodes, and medication errors.
