The Director HR Distribution n is the senior HR leader responsible for developing and executing the long-term people strategy for Distribution Center Operations across a network of more than 30 distribution centers. This role serves as the strategic HR partner to the SVP of Distribution and Distribution leadership team, driving organizational effectiveness, workforce planning, leadership development, succession planning, and labor relations strategies that support operational excellence. The HR Director partners closely with Corporate HR to ensure alignment between enterprise initiatives and Distribution Center needs, while providing direct and indirect leadership to field HR teams. Key Responsibilities Serve as the primary HR partner to the SVP of Distribution, Distribution Vice Presidents, and DC Operations leadership team. Lead the development and execution of the Distribution Center People Strategy, ensuring alignment with business objectives and enterprise HR priorities. Provide direct leadership to two Divisional HR Managers and indirect leadership to seven Regional HR Managers supporting the 30+ DC network. Drive leadership development, workforce planning, staffing strategies, retention efforts, and succession planning, across the DC organization. Partner with Corporate HR on leadership development, talent management, compensation, job architecture, and enterprise-wide initiatives. Lead organizational effectiveness efforts, including career pathing, talent calibration, and leadership pipeline development. Partner with the Leader Development Team to ensure effective individual development plans. Use workforce analytics and people data to identify trends, improve decision-making, and drive operational results. Lead and evolve the organization's labor relations strategy, including union-related planning, risk mitigation, and leadership support. Lead change management and communication efforts for major organizational and operational initiatives. Establish clear accountability and consistent execution across DC HR teams and business leaders. Accountability Framework HR Director, Distribution (this role): Owns the overall DC People Strategy, workforce planning, labor relations strategy, retention, succession planning, and leadership development. Divisional and Regional HR Managers: Translate strategy into action through workforce planning, staffing, retention, leadership development, and operational support. HR Business Partners: Execute site-level initiatives, track progress, and provide workforce data and insights. Corporate HR Partners: Provide enterprise support in compensation, talent management, job architecture, and leadership development. Distribution Operations Leaders: Partner with HR to execute people strategies and deliver talent and organizational results. Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Organizational Development, Business, or a related field required; Master's degree preferred. Minimum of 10 years of progressive HR leadership experience, with significant experience in organizational development, workforce strategy, talent management, or labor relations. Experience supporting large-scale operations in distribution, logistics, manufacturing, or similarly complex environments. Demonstrated experience leading in union and non-union environments. Strong background in compensation strategy, job architecture, workforce planning, and career development frameworks. Proven ability to lead and influence through a matrixed organization. Advanced proficiency with workforce analytics and HR systems. Success Measures Within the first 12-18 months, this role will be expected to: Establish and implement a comprehensive Distribution Center People Strategy. Improve staffing-to-plan and retention performance across the DC network. Strengthen leadership bench strength and succession readiness. Create greater consistency and accountability across field HR teams. Advance and operationalize the organization's labor relations strategy. Improve the use of workforce analytics to drive operational and talent decisions. It started with a father and son - Charles Francis "C.F." and Charles H. "Chub" O’Reilly. Together they had the courage and confidence to venture out on their own. Along with 11 others who shared the same desire to offer great customer service and auto parts availability, the doors of O’Reilly Automotive, Inc. opened on December 2, 1957.
Now, more than 61 years later, the 77,000-plus team members at O’Reilly Auto Parts are proud of the company’s achievements over the years.
During our early years, we focused on sales and slow and steady growth. At the end of our first year, sales totaled $700,000, and by 1961 volume reached $1.3 million. For the first seven years of operation, there was one store in Springfield, MO, until the second opened in July 1964. In March 1975, annual sales volume rose to $7 million and a 52,000 square-foot facility was built in Springfield for the O’Reilly/Ozark warehouse operation. By that time, the company had nine stores, all located in southwest Missouri.
The long range plans and stability of the company were solidified by a public offering of company stock in April 1993. Since that time, the Company has grown through new store and distribution center openings, as well as numerous mergers and acquisitions. O’Reilly currently operates stores in 47 states, including Alaska and Hawaii, and distribution centers in 27 locations.
Dramatic changes in technology, inventory control, facilities, and sheer size mark the O’Reilly growth and success story. But, it is our spirit of teamwork - how important it was then and how important it remains - that drives our performance. The company’s values and culture that started with the original 13 employee/owners remain evident and strong as we expand and develop Team O’Reilly.
We serve two distinct customer bases - the professional (installer) customers who provide auto repair services to their customers (DIFM - do it for me), and retail "walk-in" customers (DIY - do it yourself). Our dual-market strategy continues to differentiate us from the competition and is a major factor in our ongoing success. Depending on a store’s professional versus retail customer mix, more than 95 percent of our locations have team members dedicated to our professional customers, offering them separate counters, phone lines, and a delivery fleet that totals 18,455 vehicles. We also have a professional sales team, consisting of territory sales managers and in-store sales specialists, responsible for calling on our professional customers and building sound business partnerships to ensure O’Reilly is the First Call for their auto parts needs.
