Duties Description The Director for Risk & Insurance Management provides strategic leadership and operational
oversight for the agency's third-party risk function, overseeing a modern, risk-based approach to
insurance governance, compliance, and assurance. Most critically, the Director manages the
State's insurance brokers and related programs, managing vendor compliance and administrative
tracking. The Director for Risk & Insurance Management reports to the Associate Commissioner for
Financial Administration and is a Senior Staff member.
The Director will oversee all activities by the Bureau of Risk and Insurance Management (BRIM),
which provides insurance procurement services and for contracts to State agencies, public
authorities, and public benefit corporations. This includes management of the State's $172 M+
Broker of Record contracts for new and existing and insurance policies for the State.

with experience supervising a compliance function. The Director must have strong industry
experience, exceptional communications skills, strategic problem-solving abilities, and proven

Key Responsibilities:
Reporting to the Associate Commissioner for Financial Administration, the Director for Risk and
Insurance Management will mitigate agency risks by ensuring that agency customers and private
contractors are adequately insured under statewide and agency contracts.
The Bureau of Risk and Insurance Management is responsible for two core functions:
NYS Agencies and Municipalities, Public Authorities, and Public Benefit Corporations
Design & Construction, Procurement Services, Agency Procurement Office, Real Estate,
and Cultural & Convention Events.
The Director for BRIM will collaborate with OGS executives, the Governor's office, and multiple
agencies to implement pilot programs, execute enterprise-wide initiatives, and develop associated
policies. The Director will manage modernization projects and system integration to leverage
technology and advance financial administration program needs.

Minimum Qualifications Bachelor's degree and six years of relevant, progressively responsible experience managing a
comprehensive third-party risk and compliance portfolio. Must have at least 2 years of experience
in a management or leadership capacity.

Preferred Qualifications
Experience in leading teams within large organizations preferred, including supervision of
professional staff, oversight of multiple processes, internal and external communications, and
client engagement.
