    The primary purpose of this job is to plan, organize and direct the financial aid and veterans' programs; ensuring that Federal and State Regulations as well as institutional policies, college goals and objectives are met.

    Duties include:

    • Oversees the employment, planning, training opportunities, supervision and evaluation of all financial aid staff in accordance with personnel policy.
    • Manages and supervises all financial aid, scholarship, and veterans' administration processes to ensure compliance with federal, state and institutional regulations.
    • Serves as a Designated Certifying Official for approvals between the College and the Department of Veterans Affairs.
    • Develop student costs of attendance.
    • Monitors college work-study and child care expenditures within federal and state grants expenditures and institutional awards.
    • Provide high-quality services and disseminate financial aid information to students, faculty, staff and community stakeholders.
    • Prepare and submit Federal and State reports and other necessary correspondence with the US Department of Education, Veterans Administration and North Carolina State Approving Agency.
    • Provide guidance to students on financial aid and veterans' educational assistance matters.
    • Assess satisfactory academic progress and process student financial aid appeals; process return of Title IV overpayments; report withdraws to the Veterans Administration.
    • Process professional judgment and dependency override requests.
    • Reconcile student receivable accounts with the Business Office.
    • Manages the coordination, set-up, and process improvement for all the department's financial aid systems.
    • Serve on College committees and task forces as assigned.
    • Attend required campus events including graduation, professional development, & employee meetings.
    • Perform other duties as assigned.

    Minimum Qualifications:

    Education:

    • Bachelor's degree in business or financial field, or equivalent education and experience. Preferred: Master's Degree

    Knowledge and Skills:

    • Five years of work experience in student financial aid, including two years supervising the work of others.
    • Expert knowledge of Federal and state regulations for financial aid and veterans' programs, policies and procedures.
    • Experience with organizational management practices and techniques of budget management.
    • Ability to analyze and solve complex problems. Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to relay complex information across diverse populations, is necessary.
    • Must be proficient with Microsoft Office products and other information systems.
    • Preferred: Experience with Colleague and the North Carolina Community College System.

    Working Conditions and Environment:

    Most work is carried out in a standard heated and air-conditioned environment in a public area. Some evening and weekend work is required.

    • Twelve (12) paid holiday days each year (11, if a 10-month faculty member)
    • Twelve (12) sick days per year (10, if a 10-mont faculty member) which is cumulative indefinitely. Unused accrued sick leave can be converted to service credit for retirement
    • Staff receive fourteen (14) vacation days per year which increases as the length of service increases and accumulates year-to-year. Faculty do not receive vacation leave, rather, they have. on average, 20 scheduled, paid non-instructional days built into the academic calendar.
    • Faculty receive paid breaks throughout the academic year, including a Spring Break, Fall Break, and holiday break in December
    • 12-month employees work 1,976 hours per year, which allows for an adjusted summer schedule of 4-day work weeks.

    • Low-cost State Health Plan - employee only monthly premium for the Standard (70/30) Plan is based on salary band, and ranges from $35 per month to $80 per month.
