About the Position

Western Piedmont Community College (WPCC) is seeking an experienced, collaborative, and student-focused professional to serve as our Director of Emergency Medical Services (EMS). This position provides leadership and oversight for the College's EMS programs, including EMS In-Service, Emergency Medical Responder (EMR), Emergency Medical Technician (EMT), Advanced Emergency Medical Technician (AEMT), Paramedic, and the EMS Bridge Associate Degree program.

Reporting to the Dean of Health and Public Services, the EMS Director oversees training, clinical rotations, certifications, instructor support, and student advising while helping ensure WPCC's EMS programs meet applicable certification and accreditation requirements. The Director also leads the College's efforts related to the Committee on Accreditation of Educational Programs for the Emergency Medical Services Professions (CoAEMSP) accreditation process.

This position works closely with the College's Medical Director, EMS instructors, students, healthcare providers, regulatory agencies, and community partners to provide high-quality EMS education and develop learning opportunities that respond to the needs of emergency medical personnel, employers, and the communities we serve.

What Youll Do

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

• Provide leadership and oversight for WPCC's EMS programs, including EMS In-Service, EMR, EMT, AEMT, Paramedic, and the EMS Bridge Associate Degree.
• Recruit, mentor, and supervise EMS instructors.
• Promote EMS courses and programs and support student recruitment efforts.
• Advise students enrolled in EMS programs and serve as a point of contact for prospective students.
• Work closely with the College's Medical Director to support program quality and compliance.
• Coordinate with local hospitals and physicians' offices to provide and oversee clinical opportunities for EMS students.
• Lead and maintain compliance with applicable EMS certification guidelines and requirements.
• Complete required records and reports for certification and recertification under NCOEMS and CoAEMSP guidelines.
• Serve as a liaison among students, instructors, and NCOEMS staff regarding certification matters.
• Coordinate and establish EMS classes and visit classes in accordance with the Workforce Development & Continuing Education Internal Audit Plan.
• Maintain EMS training equipment and supplies and coordinate purchasing as needed.
• Secure and administer grants that support EMS programs.
• Participate in regional and state EMS meetings, associations, and community partnerships to remain responsive to workforce needs.
• Develop new program areas and enhance learning opportunities for emergency medical personnel as needs arise.
• Build positive working relationships with students, instructors, healthcare providers, EMS agencies, community organizations, and College departments.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

Required

• Bachelor's degree in Emergency Medical Care or a closely related field.
• Current NCOEMS licenses as a Level II Paramedic Instructor and EMT-Paramedic certification.
• Current Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS), Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS), and Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certifications.
• Significant experience serving as an in-service Paramedic.
• Strong oral and written communication skills.
• Ability to effectively manage people and demonstrate strong interpersonal skills.
• Ability to complete administrative responsibilities in a timely and organized manner.

Licensing Requirements

• Current unrestricted NCOEMS Paramedic certification or National Registry Paramedic certification.
• Current Level II EMS Instructor credential.

Preferred Qualifications

Preferred

• Master's degree in EMS or a related field.
• BCLS, ACLS, and PALS instructor credentials.
• Experience with CoAEMSP accreditation requirements and reporting.
