Director Emergency and Trauma Services

Summary 

Manages strategic oversight and operational performance within the Emergency Services and Trauma service line. Maintains a professional image and exhibits excellent customer relations to patients, visitors, physicians, and co-workers in accordance with service excellence standards and core values. The Director assumes authority and responsibility for the delivery of optimal patient care within assigned departments and for the effective operation and organization of the trauma program and its services. 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities  

These duties and responsibilities described below represent the general tasks performed on a daily basis; other tasks may be assigned. 

Assumes 24 hour accountability for the management and direction of the human, financial, and material resources necessary to provide quality care and services.  

Provides leadership, guidance, and direction in achieving outcomes and operational performance consistent with the mission, vision, and goals of Chesapeake Regional Healthcare. 

Leads service line personnel operations including supervision and mentorship of service line leadership team. 

Oversees the strategic and operational performance of the organizational trauma program consistent with the American College of Surgeons standards. 

Establishes collaborates relationships with physicians, other organizational leaders, and community partners to achieve optimal practice outcomes. 

Creates and maintains an environment that promotes patient and staff safety.  

Identifies opportunities for improvement and demonstrates willingness and ability to initiate and implement charge.  

Provides structure that facilitates emotional and situational support for peers and staff. Formulates and implements strategies for professional advancement and retention. 

Fosters an environment that promotes innovation and creativity. 

Ensures compliance with organizational policy, regulatory, and accreditation standards. 

Fosters an open work environment that is conducive to teamwork and encourages communication. 

Maintains positive employee relations and good employee morale. Emphasizes the team approach to work. Motivates and mentors those to strive for excellence. 

Demonstrates effective problem solving, conflict resolution and negotiating skills.  

Attends required hospital-wide orientations, meetings, and in-services

Supervisory Responsibilities  

Reports to:  Chief Nursing Officer 

Supervises:  Manager Emergency Department/ED Observation, Trauma Program Manager, Neuroscience Coordinator, other areas as assigned. 

Responsibilities:  Overall management responsibilities for assigned areas.  Responsible/accountable for budget and capital. 

Qualifications

Education and Experience  

Required Education: BSN required.  Master’s degree in nursing or related field, required to be obtained within three years of date of hire.  

Experience: 4 years nursing leadership experience required.  Strong emergency nursing clinical background is required including trauma patient population.  

 

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations  

Must be a Registered Nurse licensed in the State of Virginia or compact state; Must have current BLS certification.  National certification, in clinical specialty or nurse leader, required to be obtained within one year.
