Lead the Work That Shapes What Comes Next for Hartfords Students
Hartford Public Schools is looking for a strategic, student-centered leader to build and sustain a college-going and career-ready culture across our district. As Director of Post-Secondary Success and Alternative Programming, youll help make sure every HPS student, whether in a traditional or alternative setting, graduates on track and ready for college, career and life. You will report to the Executive Director of Student Support Services.
What Youll Do
- Drive graduation success: Lead district-wide strategies across traditional and alternative high schools to raise cohort graduation rates. Build models that support the districts graduation policy.
- Support students through transitions: Partner with building leaders on student engagement initiatives that elevate student voice, including student-led conferences and intentional support at key transitions (grades 5 to 6, 8 to 9, and 12 to college or career).
- Coordinate alternative programming: Align, oversee and support alternative and personalized pathway options in partnership with principals and program directors.
- Build capacity: Design and lead professional learning for principals, school counselors, college and career specialists, secondary staff and internship coordinators on the HPS College and Career Framework.
- Expand opportunity: Work with the Office of Teaching and Learning to grow partnerships with colleges, universities and community organizations, and develop strong internship opportunities.
- Lead with data: Monitor, analyze and act on on-track status, promotion and graduation rates, post-secondary entrance results, and how well transition planning is working.
- Set the standard: Establish performance expectations for college and career specialists and co-evaluate related staff in guidance, college access, capstone projects, student e-portfolios and high school accreditation.
- Celebrate the journey: Create PK-12 rituals and routines that bring the Portrait of an HPS Graduate to life.
What You Bring
- Advanced graduate degree in education, educational leadership or a related field
- At least five years of successful experience in education
- Experience in staff supervision, evaluation and performance management
- A proven record of designing and delivering effective professional development
- Experience with high school accreditation, accountability systems and performance measures
- Knowledge of early college, dual credit and concurrent enrollment models
- Strong data skills and a record of success in school improvement planning
- Experience building productive partnerships with colleges and universities
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office, Adobe, e-portfolio systems and educational data platforms
- Excellent communication and relationship-building skills
- Experience in urban school systems preferred
Certification: Connecticut Intermediate Administrator Certification (092) required. Connecticut School Counselor Certification (068) preferred.
