Job Description:

Director of Building Operations

All Saints Catholic School, Norwalk

Position Summary

The Director of Building Operations is responsible for the overall management, maintenance, safety, security, and cleanliness of the school campus. This position reports to the Business Manager. He/she ensures that all school facilities are safe, functional, well-maintained, and conducive to the educational mission of the school. The Director of Building Operations supervises the housekeeping and custodial staff and works closely with school leadership to support daily operations and long-term facility needs.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Facilities Management

  • Oversee the operation, maintenance, and repair of all school buildings, grounds, equipment, and building systems.
  • Develop and implement preventive maintenance programs for facilities and equipment.
  • Coordinate and supervise contractors, vendors, and service providers performing work on campus.
  • Monitor facility conditions and recommend repairs, renovations, and capital improvement projects.
  • Maintain inventories of maintenance supplies, equipment, and materials.

Housekeeping and Custodial Supervision

  • Directly supervise and evaluate the housekeeping and custodial team.
  • Establish cleaning schedules and standards to ensure a clean, safe, and welcoming environment.
  • Provide training, coaching, and performance management for housekeeping staff.
  • Ensure compliance with health, sanitation, and safety regulations.

School Safety and Security

  • Serve as the school's primary coordinator for facility-related safety and security matters.
  • Conduct regular safety inspections and risk assessments.
  • Maintain emergency preparedness plans and coordinate drills in collaboration with school administration.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable local, state, diocesan, and federal safety requirements.
  • Investigate facility-related incidents and implement corrective actions as needed.

Reporting and Compliance

  • Prepare and submit safety reports, maintenance reports, and other operational reports as required.
  • Maintain records related to inspections, permits, repairs, and regulatory compliance.
  • Assist the Business Manager with budgeting, forecasting, and expense tracking for facilities operations.
  • Ensure all facilities-related documentation is accurate and up to date.

Leadership and Collaboration

  • Collaborate with administrators, and faculty/staff, to support school operations.
  • Respond promptly to facility emergencies and operational issues.
  • Promote a culture of stewardship, safety, and service consistent with Catholic values and the mission of the school.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Business Manager.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in facilities management, business administration, construction management, or a related field preferred.
  • Minimum of 2-3 years of experience in facilities operations, building maintenance, or a related supervisory role.
  • Demonstrated experience supervising staff.
  • Knowledge of building systems, maintenance practices, safety regulations, and emergency preparedness.
  • Strong organizational, communication, and leadership skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and work effectively with diverse stakeholders.
  • Commitment to supporting the mission and values of Catholic education.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to inspect facilities, operate maintenance equipment, and occasionally lift up to 50 pounds.
  • Availability to respond to emergencies outside normal business hours when necessary
