The Director of Corporate Communications is responsible for planning, developing, and overseeing implementation of a wide range of corporate communications strategies for UVA Health, inclusive of the UVA School of Medicine and the Paul and Diane Manning Institute of Biotechnology. Reporting to the Senior Director of Enterprise Communication, the Director will oversee three communications portfolios including PR/Media Relations, Executive Communications/Thought Leadership and Communications Strategy for the Manning Institute. The successful candidate will possess command of many communications specialty areas including writing and editing, narrative development, story-pitching, crisis communications, and executive communications/presentations across all forms of media. The ideal candidate will be exceptionally skilled at understanding how to capture and reflect distinct leadership voices, effectively plan and execute strategic initiatives and leverage corporate communications channels to inform and engage each of the 18,000+ team members across the health system as well as external stakeholder audiences. They will have the desire to establish a foundation of excellence and a proven record of exceeding goals, both qualitatively and quantitatively. This position currently has four direct reports and the team continues to expand.

What You Will Do:

  • Lead conceptualization and execution of compelling, strategic communications for internal and external audiences; develop strategic, targeted, and impactful communication that will inform, inspire, and grow brand reputation across respective entities.
  • Develop and evaluate creative communications strategies to improve the culture and image of the health system.
  • Partner with the Sr. Director of Enterprise Communication and other key communications leaders in the department to ensure coordination and collaboration across efforts.
  • Direct and produce outstanding writing and content development that elevates the UVA Health brand and supports the mission, vision and values of the organization.
  • Lead the team dedicated to internal and external communications deliverables, including editorial, technical, and logistical.
  • Possess exceptional ability and experience in working with and building trust with C-suite executives, consistently providing communications thought leadership and expertise.
  • Orchestrate communications delivery through a variety of mediums, including print, digital, video, and live events, working with appropriate partners internally, and external vendors.
  • Partner with and lead the PR agency and internal team in the development of ongoing stories with a goal of increasing regional and national share of voice.
  • Build and direct teams (direct reports and collaborative teams across the organization) to effectively execute communications strategies and plans swiftly while managing change and ambiguity.
  • Collaborate effectively across functions and teams, cultivating and maintaining strong relationships with internal stakeholders, including broader marketing teams, executives, clinical and operational leads, legal, finance, operations, etc.
  • Lead the measurement and analysis of metrics to inform communication strategies, senior leadership decision-making and drive continuous program improvement.
  • Leads joint institutional communication-focused activities with the UVA School of Medicine, the UVA School of Nursing, UVA Community Health and partners with the University Physicians Group and other key stakeholder groups as appropriate.
  • Help create a culture in which everyone thrives, with an emphasis on inclusion and honoring and encouraging diversity of thought.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

Education: Bachelor"s degree required.

Experience: 8+ years relevant professional experience, to include 3+ years of formal managerial experience required.

Licensure: None.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

This is primarily a sedentary job involving extensive use of desktop computers. The job does occasionally require traveling some distance to attend meetings, and programs.

The pay range for this role is $109,147.00 - $218,293.00 annually. Individual compensation will be determined by the selected candidate"s qualifications, previous work experience, and/or education.
