Job Description:
About the Role
As the Director, Consumer Insights & Analytics , you will create the shared source of truth about our customers and our business that we use to drive decisions about future growth in our core products and new ventures. You will collaborate with analytics and research teams across Dow Jones to harmonize metrics, align on a shared view of the customer, and drive insights-led decision making at the senior leadership level.
This is not a pure market research role: it requires a leader who can combine strategy and storytelling with hands-on analytical ownership. The focus here, at least in the beginning, will be on pulling together disparate measurements, research, data, and analysis from across the newly formed Dow Jones consumer group and using them to tell coherent stories about our customers that inform decision making.
You will also serve as the accountable owner of official consumer metrics, build the dashboards and reporting needed to manage the business, and turn cross-functional inputs into a clear view of what happened, why it happened, and what the team should do next.
You will work on-site in our Midtown Manhattan office 3 days a week and report to the SVP, Consumer Ventures & Strategy.
You Are:
A strategist first: you can frame a question, structure an answer, and write an executive-level memo or build a deck
Able to analyze qualitative and quantitative data to derive insights
Able to navigate, unpack, and understand different metrics, definitions, and points of view
An analytics owner who can collaborate with other analytics teams and stakeholders establish clear metric definitions, build trusted reporting, and hold the organization to a consistent source of truth
Technically fluent and willing to work hands-on with data, dashboards, and analytical tools - especially while the function and reporting infrastructure are being built
Collaborative and adept at driving to consensus across functions
Relentlessly curious
A consumer of media and news with a point of view about the future of the content and data business
A data-driven storyteller who knows how to use analytics and insights to drive to decisions
Entrepreneurial: able to put a strategy into action
You Will:
Develop a deep familiarity with all of the data and research sources across Dow Jones, identifying gaps and limitations
Use those sources - and new ones that you will work with our existing teams to create - to create a unified, coherent understanding of our customers that is digestible and actionable at an executive level
Own the definitions, governance, and official reporting of consumer metrics, creating a consistent source of truth across Finance, Marketing, Technology, Product, Strategy, and Consumer leadership
Build, maintain, and continually improve dashboards and recurring reporting that track the consumer business
Own the end-to-end business performance narrative: partner with functional teams to investigate movements, pressure-test explanations, identify emerging trends, and synthesize one coherent view of what happened, why it happened, and what requires action
Collaborate closely with analytics and insights colleagues in product, marketing, and Dow Jones newsrooms
Translate insights into recommendations on roadmap, pricing, and retention
Conduct proactive analyses and opportunity sizing to identify the most important subscriber and revenue growth opportunities
Track AI, platform, and consumer behavior shifts and feed signal into strategy
Identify ways to automate and enrich reporting using AI tools
You Have:
12+ years of consumer-focused experience in strategic analytics, data, and/or insights roles; experience at a top-tier consulting firm and/or a high-performing internal corporate strategy or insights team is preferred
Experience in a B2C subscription business is highly preferred, with a deep understanding of subscription drivers and metrics including conversion, starts, churn and retention, ARPU, CAC, and LTV
Demonstrated experience owning business-critical metrics, executive dashboards, and recurring performance reporting in a complex cross-functional environment
A proven ability to influence senior stakeholders and navigate complex organizations
Proficiency with SQL, data warehouses, and business-intelligence and visualization tools, with the ability to build and quality-control dashboards directly
Strong analytical judgment, including the ability to distinguish signal from noise, connect movements across a funnel, and select the right benchmark or comparison for a given metric
At least: fluency with AI and ideas about how to use it for synthesis and research; at best: experience deploying AI tools across an analytics or strategy function
A deep interest in the future of media and content businesses and ideas about how to navigate it
The willingness to work in our Midtown Manhattan office at least 3 days each week
Media and/or content experience is a plus
