The Director Clinical Ops will be responsible for managing the operational activities, projects, and team members within the Clinical Operations (Bed Management) Department. Works collaboratively with multiple teams at all AHS facilities, including external partners and vendors. Acts as the System Operational liaison for defined regions/hospitals. Primary responsibilities include:strategic oversight and operational leadership of hospital-wide patient flow, including bed assignment, patient transport, and inter-facility transfers.

1. Leadership & Strategy

  1. Direct and manage the Bed Management team, including supervisors, coordinators, and transport staff.
  2. Develop and implement system-wide strategies to optimize bed utilization and reduce patient wait times.
  3. Develop and implement strategic plans to improve patient throughput and reduce length of stay.
  4. Serve as a subject matter expert (SME) for system-wide initiatives related to capacity management.

     

 

2. Operational Oversight

  1. Monitor and manage daily hospital census and bed availability.
  2. Oversee daily bed huddles and manage escalation protocols during capacity constraints.
  3. Coordinate intra- and inter-facility patient transfers.
  4. Lead daily bed huddles and communicate “bed alert” protocols during high census periods.

 

3. Collaborates closely with the Hospital Leadership team to implement organizational strategic plans and objectives, based on the mission and vision

  1. Strategic Plan: Construction/Facilities Liaison 
  2. FTE analysis / Productivity Tracker Analysis
  3. Monthly leadership meetings
  4. Budget review and prep

 

4. Data Analysis/Reporting

  1. Monitor real-time dashboards and analytics to track patient flow and capacity 
  2. Analyze throughput metrics and trends to identify bottlenecks and opportunities for improvement
  3. Ensure compliance with Joint Commission standards and other regulatory requirements.
  4. Maintain and update policies and procedures related to bed management.

 

5. Participates in hospital leadership meetings, to ensure operational awareness and ability to get involved when appropriate.

6. Must be self-directed and an independent thinker able to manage complex assignments and responsibilities

7. Partner with leadership to define system-wide initiative goals, objectives, timelines, and budgets; assess outcome of completed initiatives

8. Manages the efficient and effective use of operation resources – space, material, equipment, staff, and information.

9. Collaborate with leadership in assessing and executing strategies; conducts research, identifies industry standards and new innovative practices for analysis; prepares operation analysis, flow charts, presentations, and reports

10. Emergency/Crisis Management & coordination as needed

LEVEL SPECIFIC 

Director,5-7 years of leadership/management experience – Master’s Degree or equivalent combination of education/experience. All legally/reasonably expected certifications needed for function and level. Works on issues of diverse scope where analysis of issues, data & processes requires multiple factor evaluation. (Individual Contributor – In some instances, may be the primary owner and responsible for a major process or significant portion of a complex functional discipline without direct reports.)Makes decisions on work processes, operational plans and schedules, to achieve objectives established by senior management; consequences of erroneous decisions or recommendations include critical delays and modifications to projects or operations with substantial expenditure of time, human resources, and funds, and may jeopardize future system activity. Assists leadership in setting strategic direction for key programs; Competent to work at very high levels in multiple knowledge areas or functions. Manages scheduling of work assignments, daily priorities and directing the work of staff

 

Salary range: $163,702 - $306,130 base only; excludes all incentives.
