Director, Clinical Operations Emergency Department

Ready to lead one of the busiest Emergency Departments in the region?

We're looking for a bold, operationally savvy healthcare leader to oversee Emergency Services across Christiana Hospital and Middletown Emergency Department.

This isn't just a nursing leadership role. We're seeking someone who can lead through complexity, drive cultural transformation,, tackle operational challenges head-on while keeping patients, caregivers, and providers at the center of every decision.

What You'll Do

• Lead a large, high-performing team across Emergency Nursing, Observation, Float Pool, Clerical Services, and Middletown Emergency Department.
• Drive operational excellence through data, metrics, patient flow, staffing, productivity, and resource management.
• Partner closely with physicians, EMS agencies, operational leaders, and community stakeholders to solve system-wide challenges.
• Create a culture of accountability, engagement, and continuous improvement.
• Lead teams through change while building trust, resilience, and high performance.
• Develop future leaders and strengthen talent across the organization.
• Balance strategic thinking with hands-on operational leadership. You're just as comfortable discussing long-term vision as you are rolling up your sleeves to solve today's throughput challenge.

We're Looking For a Leader Who:

• Has successfully led large teams in complex, fast-paced healthcare environments.
• Understands both the clinical and business side of healthcare.
• Knows how to use metrics to drive performance and outcomes.
• Is highly visible, approachable, and accountable.
• Has experience navigating difficult operational challenges and creating lasting change.
• Builds strong relationships across departments and with external partners, including EMS and community organizations.

Qualifications

• BSN required.
• Master's degree in Nursing, Healthcare Administration, Business Administration, or related field.
• Current RN licensure.
• Professional certification in a related nursing specialty.
• Five or more years of progressive leadership experience in a complex clinical setting.
• Nurse Executive Certification preferred.

Annual Compensation Range $138,444.80 - $221,520.00

This pay rate/range represents ChristianaCare’s good faith and reasonable estimate of compensation at the time of posting. The actual salary within this range offered to a successful candidate will depend on individual factors including without limitation skills, relevant experience, and qualifications as they relate to specific job requirements.
