Profile of a Natick Educator

JOB GOAL:

To collaborate with the show director, student actors, student musicians, and full theatre company to create a musically sound and dynamic theatrical performance while instilling the values of community building.

QUALIFICATIONS

Education: College Graduate - Musical Theatre or Music Degree or training preferred

Professional Certification: Musical Theatre or Music Certification at high school level is preferred

Specialized Knowledge:

• Reads musical scores and plays piano
• Proficient at both instructing vocalists and instrumentalists
• Familiar with keyboard programming, setting up rigs, and performing with click tracks
• Understanding of and commitment to the principles and practices of diversity, equity, inclusion, and social justice as they relate to students, caregivers, and community

Preferred Experience:

• Musical Theatre Experience
• Conducting experience: either from the keyboard or stick conducting
• Experience with Google Suite (Drive, Docs, Sheets, Slides, Classroom, etc.) and PowerSchool preferred, but will train the right candidate

Skills:

• See specialized knowledge
• Demonstrated aptitude for work to be performed
• Bilingual skills, especially in Spanish and Portuguese, are highly desirable
• Candidates should have a passion for working with students, families, and colleagues
• Candidates must be flexible and collaborative
• Candidates must be able to multitask in a fast-paced, supportive environment that nurtures student growth
• Candidates must be organized and able to meet ongoing, time-sensitive deadlines for work production

Alternative degrees/experience may be substituted for the above at the discretion of the Superintendent, if such a substitution brings a strong candidate forward.

TOOLS AND EQUIPMENT USED

• Musical Keyboard, various musial instruments, musical scores, andclick tracks
• Phone, intercom, personal computer and software applications as outlined above, scanner, copy machine, calculator, camera, printers and fax machine.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF THE JOB (not limited to)

Works with district and school leadership to combat systemic barriers that limit student, family, and staff members' equitable access to opportunity

• Study and learn the musical score
• Prepare music for auditions
• Attend/view auditions
• Work with the Director to cast the show and set the overall musical rehearsal schedule
• Lead music rehearsals with the cast, typically afternoon and early evening
• Recruit / Select / Manage pit musicians
• Schedule and lead Pit rehearsals
• Attend production week and all performances
• Conduct shows (potentially from the keyboard)
• Identifies and addresses bias and its impact on rigor and opportunity for students and staff

Any other relative duties as assigned.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

• Recruit, teach and lead Pit Musicians
• Hold and manage vocal rehearsals for Actors
