Job Summary

The Director of Child Care & Family Services is responsible for the planning, development, curricular and logistical oversite for childcare on all SLCC campuses.

The director engages parents, students, faculty, and staff in support of a safe and age-appropriate developmental environment.

The director will administer quality services by funding, organizing, scheduling, and evaluating childcare staff and programs.

The director will oversee childcare services to ensure access and effectiveness across college locations.

The director will provide a high standard of safety and curriculum by meeting or exceeding all licensing requirements and regulations as well as upholding health standards for employees, children, and staff.

The director will monitor food handling practices, supervise emergency preparedness procedures and maintain a safe and support physical environment.

The director partners with Risk Management, Facilities, and the Universal Access Coordinator to ensure that SLCC childcare facilities are ADA compliant and to identify and eliminate safety hazards.

The director leads the childcare staff and communicates with college support staff to develop and maintain site emergency response and continuity plans.

The director is responsible for the management and disbursement of voucher assistance.

The director designs processes for students with children to access financial assistance and community assistance programs.

The director is an advocate for external investment in quality childcare.

The director administers the Child Care Access Means Parents in School (CCAMPIS) grant including budgeting, spending, reporting, evaluation, and any other grant requirements.

The director serves as the Budget Center Manager with responsibility for all personnel and operational revenue and expense accounting in accordance with college policy.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities & Knowledge Skills & Abilities

Knowledge of:

• Child care practices and systems and Utah State Licensing regulations
• National Childcare accreditation standards, reporting, and assessment
• Management and administrative practices for multiple service locations
• Accounting processes and procedures related to billing, payment, and vouchers
• Effective strategies to minimize and/or address disruptive behaviors in young childre

Skills and Abilities:

• Ability to direct administrative and teaching employees of the college Child Care Centers to ensure safe and effective operation of the facilities and their programs.
• Ability to ensure the implementation of developmentally appropriate curriculum
• Ability to establish and maintain a relationship of cooperation and respect with Childcare employees and all college colleagues
• Skills to plan and implement special projects for children, parents, and staff
• Ability to effectively manage operational budgets, track revenues and expenditures, apply voucher and/or grant subsidies, and reconcile individual client accounts in a timely manner.
• Ability to evaluate and assure safe and effective operation of a childcare facility
• Ability to effectively intervene with disruptive behavior and to appropriately follow up with staff, parents, and other providers to foster supportive responses and positive outcomes
• Ability to communicate effectively with a broad range of people from a variety of abilities and backgrounds
• Skills in establishing and maintaining positive working relationships across the College
• Ability to work with groups across academic, socioeconomic, cultural and ethnic experiences and with community college students, faculty, staff and persons with disabilities

Management & Supervision:

• Responsible for managing budgets, developing curriculum, submitting reports, assessing program effectiveness and developing long-term strategies and priorities
• Responsible for defining, tracking, assessing and revising program goals and outcomes related to quality services to children
• Manages the daily facilities, staffing, programs, and events at multiple childcare locations
• Supervises all childcare staff and related support staff including, hiring, training, and corrective actions
• Successfully secures and maintains grant funding from local, state, and federal sources
• Confers with Risk Management, Facilities, and the Universal Access Coordinator to ensure that facilities are ADA compliant and to eliminate safety hazards at each site
• Partners with site administrators, site leadership team and Emergency Management personnel to develop and maintain site emergency response procedures and practices
• Other duties as assigned

Minimum qualifications

• Bachelors Degree in Early Childhood Education or related field required.
• Three (3) - Six (6) or more years of direct, full-time, paid work experience working in child care services or a related field.

Trade off 1:1 full-time experience/education requirement.

Part-time experience can be considered on a prorated basis (Trade off 2:1).

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience managing a licensed childcare facility
• Fluency in a second language
