Job Summary and Qualifications

The Cardiac Cath Lab Director provides leadership and overall responsibility for the functions of assigned clinical patient care/procedural units to include Cardiovascular Surgery, Cardiac Cath, Electrophysiology Labs, and Pre/Post. Directs 24/7 operations with full accountability. Ensures proper inventory supplies, scheduling of personnel maintaining high standards of quality, customer service, staff development, and is an effective physician liaison.

Work with CV administration team to establish vision and strategic plan for Cardiovascular Surgery, the Cath lab and Outpatient Cath lab.

Develops and manages plan to expand service offerings in Cardiovascular Surgery and the Cath/EP lab as appropriate.

Develops strong relationships with physicians and works collaboratively with them to develop existing service offerings, implement new programs and evaluate/improve quality outcomes.

Sets specific goals with staff to meet strategic plans and empowers staff to achieve these goals.

Manages day-to-day efficiency of departments including productivity and supply management.

Manages construction projects in department as required including development of business case(s).

Works collaboratively with the director of non-invasive cardiac diagnostics to develop joint growth strategy for the cardiovascular service line.

Works collaboratively with the surgical services director on projects related to the cardiac surgery program development.

Assumes fiscal responsibility for personnel, supplies, and equipment for all departments.

Assures the smooth 24-hour delivery of quality patient care.

Hires, orients, continuously develops, and evaluates staff: Manages staff engagement and continuously strives for improvement.

Leverages coordinators in each functional area providing them with opportunities for career growth and continuous learning.

Hold coordinators accountable for managing the day-to-day functions in their respective areas.

Assumes responsibility for developing departmental performance improvement plans and opportunities to impact quality outcomes including but not limited to on time starts, room turn around times, CathPCI registry, ICD registry, core measures, and ongoing audits.

Manages compliance with regulatory standards to ensure highest level of care.

Identifies areas of opportunity (in delivery of patient care, staffing and strategy) and works toward solutions.

Reviews and develops monthly reports and provides update on department progress to senior leadership.

Works closely with the Emergency Room and with EMS to assure optimal continuity of care from pre-hospital to hospital for cardiac patients.

Takes on other duties as assigned.

Education & Experience:

Graduation from an accredited School of Nursing – Bachelors Degree – Required.

Licensed or eligible for licensure in the State of Virginia as a Registered Nurse – Required.

5 years current nursing experience – Required.

2 Years of management experience – Required.

Cardiac Experience – Preferred.
