This is an opportunity to lead alumni engagement for a mission-driven institution with a proud legacy, a highly committed alumni community, and a strong focus on education, research, service, and community impact. Reporting to the Associate Vice President of Institutional Advancement, the Director will develop and execute a comprehensive strategy to strengthen lifelong alumni relationships, expand constituent engagement, increase volunteerism and philanthropic support, and advance key institutional priorities. The ideal candidate is a relationship-centered advancement leader who can combine tradition and community with modern engagement strategies, compelling communications, data-informed decision-making, and disciplined execution. ===== What You’ll Lead ===== * Develop and execute a comprehensive alumni and constituency engagement strategy across regional and national audiences. * Build and strengthen alumni chapters, affinity networks, mentorship programs, volunteer initiatives, and lifelong engagement opportunities. * Cultivate productive relationships with alumni, corporate partners, community leaders, government officials, donors, and other key stakeholders. * Create initiatives that increase alumni participation, giving, volunteerism, and support for university programs and capital campaigns. * Partner with academic departments and student affairs to engage current students and build an early foundation for lifelong alumni involvement. * Oversee alumni communications, events, marketing campaigns, digital engagement, and constituent outreach. * Lead the effective use of alumni databases and constituent relationship management systems, ensuring accurate data and meaningful engagement reporting. * Manage the department’s budget, staff, priorities, and performance while promoting professional development and accountability. * Evaluate program effectiveness and use engagement trends, feedback, and performance metrics to guide continuous improvement. * Represent the institution at alumni events, community functions, conferences, and other regional and national engagements. ===== What You’ll Bring ===== ==== Required Qualifications ==== * Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university. * At least five years of professional experience in alumni relations, institutional advancement, development, fundraising, or a closely related field. * Demonstrated experience managing programs, budgets, and staff within a higher-education, nonprofit, association, or similarly mission-driven environment. * Strong communication, organizational, and relationship-building skills across diverse audiences. * Experience working with constituent relationship management or alumni engagement systems. * Ability to manage multiple priorities, lead through influence, and operate effectively in a highly visible, fast-paced environment. ==== Preferred Qualifications ==== * Master’s degree in higher education administration, business administration, nonprofit management, communications, or a related discipline. * Experience working within an HBCU, university, or similarly community-centered institution. * Demonstrated success increasing alumni engagement, philanthropic support, or donor participation. * Experience using data, analytics, and engagement metrics to evaluate program performance. * Grant-writing experience or knowledge of nonprofit compliance and reporting requirements. ===== Why Consider This Opportunity? ===== This position offers the opportunity to shape how thousands of alumni and community stakeholders remain connected to an institution that has influenced generations of leaders.
