Job Description

Department: Occupational Therapy

Hourly: $21.00

General Statement of Job

Coordinates the competency-based practical skills labs for the Occupational Therapy Assistant Program.

Specific Duties and Responsibilities

Essential Functions:
  • Assists in development, coordination, and implementation of the lab practical skills competency-training sessions, skills-check-offs, and curriculum for selected Occupational Therapy Assistant program courses.
  • Provide direct supervision and instruction of Occupational Therapy Assistant program students during lab or practical skills training sessions.
  • Maintain proper inventory and/or operation of supplies and equipment utilized for lab/classroom sessions.
  • Support faculty with selected activities or supervision of students in the classroom or clinical settings.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Required Education and Experience

Associate's Degree of Applied Science required; Bachelor degree preferred. Graduate of an accredited educational Occupational Therapy Assistant (OTA) program. At least one (1) year of occupational therapy clinical practice.

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
  • Excellent oral, written, presentation, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Strong computer skills with knowledge of Microsoft Office including, but not limited to, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook, the Windows environment, and internet research skills.
  • Ability to prioritize, organize, and complete multiple tasks with attention to detail, within stated deadlines.
  • Ability to work evenings and/or weekends as needed.
  • Demonstrated commitment to achieving the vision and mission of South Texas College.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
  • Ability to speak effectively before groups of students, parents, customers or employees of organization.
  • Ability to apply practical understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.
  • Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized and non-standardized situations.

Checks, Certificates, Licenses, and Registrations
  • All applicants are subject to a national criminal background check under South Texas College policy.
  • Current Texas license to practice as an Occupational Therapist Assistant or Occupational Therapist (Texas Board of Occupational Therapy Examiners) in good standing.
  • CPR Certification and First Aid certifications required.
  • Current national certification by the National Board for Certification in Occupational Therapy.

Physical Requirements
  • Exerting up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 50 pounds of force to move objects.
  • Ascending or descending ladders, stairs, scaffolding, ramps, poles and the like, using feet and legs and/or hands and arms.
  • Body agility is emphasized.
  • Bending the body downward and forward by bending
