Direct Support Professional (DSP)

Amicus Place is seeking compassionate, dependable, and motivated Direct Support Professionals (DSPs) to support individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities in living meaningful, productive, and more independent lives.
As a DSP, you will play an important role in helping the individuals we support achieve their personal goals, make choices, develop daily living skills, participate in their communities, and maintain their health, safety, dignity, and well-being.
This position is ideal for someone who is patient, respectful, dependable, empathetic, and passionate about supporting others. You will work closely with individuals to provide person-centered support while encouraging independence rather than doing things for them whenever they are able to do them themselves.
What You'll Do
As a Direct Support Professional, you will:
- Create and maintain a safe, positive, respectful, and supportive environment that promotes dignity, choice, independence, and self-expression.
- Provide individualized support based on each individual's needs, preferences, goals, care plans, and established guidelines.
- Assist individuals with personal care and activities of daily living, including hygiene, grooming, meals, mobility, and other routine needs.
- Support individuals with healthcare and medical routines in accordance with applicable instructions and established procedures.
- Encourage individuals to develop and maintain independent living skills.
- Promote decision-making, self-advocacy, productivity, and participation in meaningful activities.
- Support individuals in pursuing employment, education, recreation, hobbies, social activities, and other personal interests.
- Facilitate community inclusion by assisting individuals in accessing community events, appointments, activities, and resources.
- Respect and support each individual's personal choices, rights, culture, beliefs, and preferences.
- Build positive relationships with individuals while maintaining appropriate professional boundaries.
- Monitor individuals' well-being and communicate changes, concerns, incidents, or other important information to appropriate supervisors.
- Complete required documentation, progress notes, medication records, and other records accurately and in accordance with company procedures.
- Perform household and housekeeping duties necessary to maintain a clean, safe, and comfortable living environment.
- Maintain familiarity with the needs, routines, goals, and support requirements of the individuals served.
- Follow all company policies, procedures, training requirements, and applicable regulations.
- Safely operate company vehicles and transport individuals as needed, in accordance with company policies and applicable laws.
- Serve as an advocate for individuals with disabilities and promote their dignity, independence, inclusion, and quality of life.

Minimum Qualifications
- High school diploma, GED, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- At least 6 months of social service experience or relevant life experience supporting individuals with intellectual or developmental disabilities preferred.
- Valid driver's license.
- Valid automobile insurance.
- Reliable personal vehicle for work-related transportation, as applicable.
- Good driving record.
- Comfortable assisting individuals with personal hygiene, activities of daily living, and medical routines.
- Basic computer skills and ability to complete electronic documentation.
- Ability to successfully complete required background checks and pre-employment requirements.
- CPR and First Aid certification, or willingness to obtain certification as required.
- TB screening/testing as required.
- Ability to successfully complete all required initial and ongoing Amicus Place training.
- Ability to work assigned shifts and maintain reliable attendance.
How We Work – The Amicus Schedule
7 Days On. 7 Days Off.
At Amicus Place, we believe in providing a schedule that offers consistency while also giving our DSPs meaningful time away from work.
Our DSPs follow a 7-days-on / 7-days-off schedule:
Work 7 consecutive days Enjoy 7 full days off.
Your off week gives you the opportunity to rest, travel, spend time with family, pursue personal goals, or simply recharge.
Shift Options
Day Shift – Open to All New Hires7:00 AM – 7:00 PM
Night Shift – Currently Reserved for Current DSPs7:00 PM – 7:00 AM
Weekly Rotation
Shifts begin every Wednesday and end the following Tuesday.
Your Off Week Is Your Time
Once your scheduled work week is complete, you are completely off during your seven-day off week.
Need additional hours? You may choose to pick up available shifts when call-offs occur. Picking up additional shifts is optional.
