Job Summary

A Direct Care Worker (DCW) provides personal care and home support services to seniors in the Morrisville area. Under supervision, the Direct Care Worker  assists with personal hygiene, mobility, dressing, feeding, and maintaining a clean, safe environment to enhance each client's quality of life.

Organizational Relationship

Reports to the designated supervisor.

Risk of Occupational Exposure to Bloodborne Pathogens

Category B – Limited exposure.

Qualifications

Candidates must meet at least one of the following Pennsylvania state-approved training requirements:

• Pass a competency exam developed by the agency or a recognized entity

• Complete a training program developed by the agency that meets state requirements

• Be trained through participation in a Medicaid Waiver or other publicly funded home/community-based program

• Complete a training program approved by the PA Department of Health

Additional Requirements:

• 2–4 years of experience working with seniors in home care

• Reliable and verifiable professional references

• Current CPR certification

• Must pass a criminal background check, TB test, and physical

• Good hygiene and professional appearance

• Ability to speak, read, and write in English

• Reliable transportation preferred

Key Responsibilities

Personal Services – Assists With:

• Bathing (tub, shower, or bed)

• Oral hygiene and grooming

• Hair and nail care

• Routine skin care and lotion massage

• Positioning and turning clients in bed or chair

• Dressing, toileting, and feeding

• Mobility assistance and walking support

• Medication reminders

Homemaking – Assists With:

• Meal planning and preparation (including modified diets)

• Feeding assistance

• Linen changes (occupied and unoccupied)

• Laundry (client’s only)

• Light housekeeping (dishes, dusting, vacuuming in client areas)

• Listing supplies and grocery shopping

DCWs Are Required To:

• Follow universal precautions and infection control guidelines

• Maintain strict confidentiality

• Perform only tasks listed in the individual client’s care plan

• Recognize and respond to client needs, conditions, and emergencies

• Submit accurate daily activity logs weekly

• Follow agency policies, attendance standards, and client rights

• Attend annual in-service training

• Participate in supervision and communicate openly

• Maintain a professional and presentable appearance

Functional Abilities

• Able to lift/carry bundles upstairs (up to 10 lbs)

• Able to stoop, bend, and travel to client residences

• Must be able to hear and communicate clearly in English
