Position Summary
The Direct Bill Premium Accounting Senior Specialist is an experienced accounting professional responsible for analyzing and resolving complex Direct Bill accounting issues, supporting process improvements, and serving as a subject-matter resource for the Direct Bill Accounting team. This position will remain hands-on with complex transactions and issues while helping ensure accuracy, consistency, and efficiency across Direct Bill operations.
The Senior Specialist will work closely with the Supervisor and team members to research and resolve complex accounting matters, identify opportunities to streamline processes, improve documentation and controls, and provide guidance and support on challenging issues.
Key Responsibilities
- Analyze and resolve complex or unusual Direct Bill accounting issues, transactions, and escalations.
- Provide accounting research and support related to receivables, payables, cash application, commissions, reconciliations, carrier statements, and other Direct Bill transactions.
- Serve as a subject-matter resource for Direct Bill accounting questions and complex issues.
- Assist team members with difficult or unusual issues by providing research, analysis, and recommendations while maintaining appropriate ownership of individual responsibilities.
- Identify recurring issues, process gaps, and opportunities to improve accuracy, efficiency, and consistency within Direct Bill operations.
- Analyze existing processes and workflows and recommend opportunities to streamline, automate, or improve procedures.
- Partner with the Manager and appropriate business partners to implement process improvements and resolve operational issues.
- Help develop, update, and maintain Direct Bill procedures, documentation, and internal controls.
- Perform detailed analysis of accounting activity and trends to identify discrepancies, root causes, and potential areas of risk.
- Build strong working relationships with Customer Service, Production, Underwriting, Accounting, carriers, producers, and other internal partners to facilitate issue resolution and process improvements.
- Support cross-training and knowledge sharing by documenting processes, complex scenarios, and best practices.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, or related field, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Significant accounting experience, preferably in insurance, premium accounting, or Direct Bill accounting.
- Strong understanding of accounts receivable, accounts payable, cash application, reconciliations, agency commissions, and related accounting processes.
- Demonstrated ability to research, analyze, and resolve complex accounting issues.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, organizational, and communication skills.
- Ability to identify root causes, evaluate alternatives, and recommend practical solutions.
- Demonstrated ability to manage complex projects or process improvement initiatives from analysis through implementation.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to exercise sound judgment when resolving or escalating issues.
- Ability to work independently while effectively collaborating with team members and cross-functional partners.
- Experience with process improvement, documentation, automation, or systems-related projects preferred.
Role Focus
This position is intended for an experienced accounting professional who serves as a key subject-matter resource within the Direct Bill Accounting team. The Senior Specialist will focus on complex issue analysis, problem resolution, process improvement, and project support while continuing to provide day-to-day technical assistance to the team.
The successful candidate will bring strong accounting expertise, analytical thinking, and a continuous improvement mindset to help identify and resolve complex issues, streamline processes, strengthen controls, and improve the overall efficiency and accuracy of Direct Bill operations.
