    Position summary

    Assistant Professor to teach, advise, supervise field experience and direct student projects.

    Expertise in teaching math, and/or science is desired. Position may require teaching in any /or all semesters including summers. Person chosen for this position is expected to be involved in research as well as teaching and supervision of undergraduate and graduate student teachers. A wide variety of responsibilities are expected including accreditation and assessment as required by the university and outside accrediting bodies. Teaching areas are flexible as department needs dictate.

    Qualifications summary

    • Earned doctorate in Education or related field
    • Evidence of scholarship through research, presentations & publications or demonstration of strong potential for developing scholarship.
    • Documented successful years K-12 classroom teaching in US or Canadian schools, preferably multi-grade.
    • Teaching & supervision and/or administrative field experience.
    • Ability to model effective teaching.
    • Knowledge of current trends in education.
    • Evidence of commitment to professional growth and professional organizational involvement.

    Must be a Seventh-day Adventist in good and regular standing.

    Duties and responsibilities

    • Teach undergraduate and/or graduate classes
    • Advise students in degree and licensure requirements
    • Maintain regular office hours
    • Read and supervise undergraduate and graduate projects
    • Serve on departmental and university committees
    • Maintain an active research agenda as documented through publications and presentations (required for continuous appointment and promotion)
    • Develop, implement and model appropriate standards-based assessment in courses
    • Student teaching supervision; and
    • Serve the university and community

    Supervisory responsibilities

    Supervise Student Teachers

    Supervise both undergraduate and graduate projects.

    Supervise education club and other department gatherings.

    Qualifications

    • Earned doctorate in Curriculum & Instruction or related field
    • Evidence of scholarship through research, presentations & publications or demonstration of strong potential for developing scholarships.
    • Documented successful 3 years K-12 classroom teaching in US or Canadian schools, preferably multi-grade.
    • Evidence of commitment to departmental curricular and program development.
    • Teaching & supervision and/or administrative field experience.
    • Ability to model effective teaching.
    • Knowledge of current trends in education.
    • Evidence of commitment to professional growth and professional organizational involvement.
    • Evidence of collegiality in workplace and good interpersonal skills

    Must be a Seventh-day Adventist in good and regular standing.

    Work environment is a university office environment and K12 schools.

    Offices are in the downstairs area of Bell Hall.

    Travel is sometimes required in snowy, icy conditions.
